Two books into this whole Stephen King Retrospective (though it is in fact the third book) and we might have hit the plateau. The Shining has an interesting set of distinctions in the author's bibliography. It remains one of the author's most popular books among readers. Yet, the original film adaptation has sparked more debate than anything that has ever been adapted. Is it a question of Stanley Kubrick taking the novel's contents and changing them in the name of the author, whom Kubrick had called 'a brat'? Or, is it really one of the scariest movies ever made, and King's shots at it unwarranted? Listen in as myself, Matt, and Adam rejoin to answer some of this debate. In the 90s, if Roseanne was the queen of ABC, Stephen King was its king. By the time The Shining mini series aired in 1997, he had four full mini series that had massive ratings. So, with ABC at his disposal, he decided to do the one thing that had eluded him since Stanley Kubrick released his 1980 film. With horror fans and critics coming around to the original's horrific display, King decided it was finally time to unleash his own cinematic version of his 1977 novel, with his friend Mick Garris directing. Listen in as myself, Matt, and Adam decide if it is indeed what King had hoped. A movie that is even better than Kubrick's. The Shining (1997) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10) CLICK ABOVE TO LISTEN NOW!
