The Flagship: Texas ramps up for Big 12 play
Manage episode 302722291 series 2537660
Texas wrapped up the non-conference slate on a positive note when the Longhorns manhandled Rice, 58-0, last weekend. With the first three games in the rear-view mirror, Texas will not shift its focus to the Big 12 schedule, which could be a tough road for the Longhorns starting this weekend when Texas Tech heads to Austin for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
On the early week edition of The Flagship Podcast, Horns247 columnist Chip Brown and managing editor Taylor Estes dive in to the first Big 12 game of the year for Steve Sarkisian and his staff against the Red Raiders. The Flagship discusses some of the key comments from Sarkisian to start the week as his team looks to continue on the winning path when they host Texas Tech this weekend. The Flagship weighs in on the first-year head coach announcing QB Casey Thompson will once again start for Texas Saturday, while the playing time for Hudson Card is up in the air and is not a guarantee.
With Thompson and the offense coming off of the monster performance against the Owls, Chip and Taylor give their take on what to expect from that side of the ball down the stretch of conference action. The Flagship also delivers an early preview of the Red Raiders, particularly on offense with Texas Tech fielding a more balanced group that has the talent to gash opponents on the ground and in the passing game. The Texas defense will be tasked with a difficult challenge in facing Texas Tech QB Tyler Shough — who averaged 270.67 passing yards per game for the Red Raiders in non-conference — and why Saturday's game will be the first true test for the Texas secondary in going up against the Tech offense.
After a short break, The Flagship returns with our 'Love it or Leave it' segment, with this week's topics touching on what, if anything, we learned about Texas from the Rice game, level of concern for Joshua Moore's limited production through the last two games and how close Saturday's game between Texas and Texas Tech could be based off how the two teams have played one another in the past.
