《黄帝内经》相传为古代医家假托轩辕黄帝之名而作，一般认为成书于春秋战国时期，是我国医学宝库中现存成书最早的一部医学典籍。全书在以黄帝、岐伯、雷公对话、问答的形式阐述病机病理的同时，主张不治已病，而治未病，同时主张养生、摄生、益寿、延年，是研究人的生理学、病理学、诊断学、治疗原则和药物学的医学巨著，在理论上建立了中医学上的“阴阳五行学说”、“脉象学说”、“藏象学说”、“经络学说”、“病因学说”、“病机学说”、“病症”、“诊法”、“论治”及“养生学”、“运气学”等学说。
《黄帝内经》分为《灵枢》、《素问》两部分，各81篇，共162篇。本书选取内容为《灵枢》前20章和《素问》前20章。
