Midtown Farmers Market
Manage episode 402632326 series 2932122
On today's show, we sit down with the powerhouse trio behind the success of one of the Twin Cities' best farmers markets, 3032 Minnehaha Ave. Manager Keeya Allen, Assistant Manager Molly Flemmy, and Executive Director Alicia D. Simon have each brought their own expertise to create an environment of food justice and economic sustainability in the market, even amid a pandemic. Alicia’s ambition and creativity have been a major influence on the markets’ offerings. From her successful Grants program, to special community days, to live music on weekends, she's been committed to the creation of an environment of economic sustainability. Molly has helped to create the collaborative, engaged atmosphere the market has become known for, facilitating networking events and organizing volunteers to serve those most vulnerable to food insecurity in the Minneapolis area. Keeya’s deep roots in the local agricultural and community service industries, along with her skillful management and leadership have driven the growth of the market over the past two years. Even in a pandemic, her and her team’s ability to navigate the challenges that come with running an event like a farmers market has allowed the market to maintain operations without disrupting the small local businesses that it supports. This Saturday, August 7th, the Governor of Minnesota will be making a special appearance at the market to recognize these incredible women for their hard work and commitment to economic sustainability. Be sure to come down and experience first-hand all that this unique farmers market has to offer
