The Renaissance was regarded as a time of "coming out of the dark." It was a period of rebirth for science, art, literature, education, and music in Europe. It was also a time when people, in general, lived a better life.
The word "renaissance" means "rebirth" in French. The word was first seen in English in the 1830s.
