1.CHINESE SHIPBUILDER DELIVERS MASSIVE CONTAINER SHIP

中国首艘全球最大超大型集装箱船在沪交付

One of the world’s largest container ships was delivered today, a 400-meter-long vessel 【轮船】that was designed by a subsidiary of China State Ship-building’ Corporation. Sun Siqi has the story.

今天（6.22），中国首制全球最大24000箱级超大型集装箱船"长益"号成功交付。该船总长近400米，由中国船舶集团旗下沪东中华造船有限公司自主设计。记者孙思奇为您带来更多报道。

The 399-meter seaborne colossus【巨物】 is 60 meters longer than the world’ s largest aircraft carrier. It’ s deck space is the size of 3-and-a-half soccer fields. Up to 25 layers of container units can be stacked vertically, equaling the height of a 22-story building and can carry 240,000 tons. The bulbous ship bow design is a first for this class of vessel.

这艘海上"巨无霸"，总长399.99米，比目前世界最大的航母还要长60多米；甲板面积达24000平方米，相当于3.5个标准足球场；最大堆箱层数可达25层，相当于22楼的高度，可承载24万吨货物。玲珑型球鼻艏也首次应用于这一级别的大型箱船设计。

The bow cuts down water resistance and saves up to 13.5 percent in carbon emissions.

在航行当中，玲珑型球鼻艏可减少海水对船体的摩擦，以提高推进效率。它能减少大约13.5%的碳排放量。

Global demand for container units has skyrocketed【飞涨】 since the start of the pandemic in 2020. In May, major sea ports in China handled more than 22 million container units, breaking its own record. The vessel will cruise between the Fast East and Europe and boost shipping volume on this route.

新冠疫情以来，全球对于集装箱需求明显增加。今年5月，中国沿海主要港口集装箱吞吐量超过2228万集装箱，创下历史最高纪录。接下来，24000箱级大型箱船，也将服务于远东至欧洲的航线，提升集装箱运力。

The Eurasia route is dubbed "The Seaway of Gold" as it links all major ports on the continents. Having a larger ship means transporting more containers on the same trip, and that means a lower cost per container.

在航运界，亚欧航线被成为“黄金线”，因为它可以串起整个亚欧航线的这些港口。在规则允许的范围内，拥有一艘更大的船意味着在同一航程中运输更多的集装箱，这也意味着每个箱子的单位成本会更低。

2.BEARPAW CAFE REOPENS

Branches of Hinichijou Cafe, also known as "Bear Paw Cafe", have reopened in Shanghai. About 50% of the chain’s workforce is disabled, but it remains on track to open another outlet in Pudong next month with a blind person as both manager and barista. Song Wenjing has the story.

“HINICHIJOU咖啡馆”的分店,也被称为“熊爪咖啡”，目前已在上海恢复营业。这家连锁店近一半的员工是残障人士，同时还计划下个月在浦东开出一家由盲人担任店长和咖啡师的小店。记者宋雯婧为您带来更多报道。

At one of the bear paw cafe outlets this morning, barista【咖啡师】 Chen Yingying, who has hearing and speaking impairments, was making an iced latte. She said she was happy to be back at work making coffee. Several minutes later, Chen passed the drink to the customer through a hole in the wall -- the cafe’s trademark.

今天早上（6/22），“熊爪”咖啡分店的聋哑咖啡师陈莹莹正在精心制作冰拿铁。当记者询问她复工的心情，她用手语表示很开心。几分钟后，莹莹通过墙上的“熊洞”把咖啡递给了今天的第一位顾客，这也正是熊爪咖啡的标志。

I heard about Bear Paw Cafe. So I made a point of getting a coffee here during my trip to Shanghai.

Although the cafe was closed during the lockdown, its employees were involved in volunteer work.

All of the chain’s outlets have reopened. It will also open a new cafe in July, with Tian Bao being its manager. As a blind person, he has a variety of hobbies, including long-distance running, photography and skateboarding. Tian says when he’s taking photos, an escort【随行人员】 describes the scenery and then he decides whether to take a photo of it. These days, he’s been busy practising latte art over and over to build muscle memory.

The co-founder of the chain said the new outlet in Pudong has been designed in such a way that blind employees will be able to navigate the cafe. Its coffee making machines have been altered so that blind baristas can recognize the buttons by touch. There are nearly 12.5 million blind people in the country, and less than 10 percent of them have got jobs.

Britain’s biggest rail strike in 30 years started on Tuesday, causing massive disruptions【中断】 to rail services in England, Scotland and Wales as tens of thousands of staff walked out in a dispute over pay and job security. Lei Shuran has more.

Only about 20 percent of passenger trains were scheduled to run after staff walked off the job at 12 midnight on Tuesday. The walkouts will continue on Thursday and Saturday this week, affecting millions of passengers.More than 40,000 Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers union members, including guards, catering staff, signalers and track maintenance workers are taking part in the labor action.
