超40个人工智能产业重点项目入驻滴水湖AI创新港
Lingang’s Dishui Lake AI Innovation Hub opened today with more than 40 companies choosing to locate there. Lingang officials are planning to attract more companies to form an artificial intelligence industrial cluster【集群】. Zhang Hong brings us the details.
滴水湖AI创新港今天（8/18）正式启动，共有40多个人工智能产业重点项目签约入驻。临港官员正计划吸引更多公司，形成人工智能产业集群。记者张泓带来更多详细报道。
Lingang offered 3 million square meters of land to AI companies in its central area surrounding Dishui Lake. So far, contracts have been signed on more than 40 projects with total investment of over 30 billion yuan. The companies specialize in chips, automated driving, robots and algorithms.
临港主城区最核心的滴水湖一环带的300万方空间虚位以待，用来承载人工智能产业发展。目前，已有超过40个产业项目入驻，合计投资超300亿元，覆盖芯片、自动驾驶、机器人、算法等热门领域。

We plan to attract 500 AI companies to form an industrial scale of 50 billion yuan. What’s more important is that the companies need to hire 20,000 to 30,000 talents in this field.

A detailed plan to boost the AI sector in Lingang through 2025 was also issued today. The document highlighted the importance of building smart cars and expanding the manufacturing of smart terminals.
今天（8/18）发布的《临港新片区大力培育人工智能产业行动方案（2022-2025）》，明确以智能网联汽车等领域为突破点，持续做大高端智能终端规模。
2.HEATWAVE CAUSING POWER SHORTAGES IN SICHUAN
四川受热浪影响严重，正面临电力短缺
The National Meteorological【气象学的】Center renewed a red warning for high temperatures today for the seventh day in a row. China’s largest freshwater lake, The Poyang, entered dry season at earliest date since records started in 1951. Sichuan province has been hit the hardest by the heat wave, and is facing power shortages. Zhang Hong tells us more.
国家气象中心继续发布高温红色预警，这已是连续第7天发布高温红色预警。中国最大的淡水湖鄱阳湖创下了1951年有记录以来最早进入枯水期的纪录。四川省受热浪影响最为严重，正面临电力短缺。记者张泓带来更多详细报道。
Poyang lake’s water level continues to recede【渐渐退去】, at 2pm today measurements taken at the Xingzi hydrological station showed it is down to just over 10 meters, that is more than 6 and-a-half meters lower than what is expected during a typical dry season. The dry season began two months earlier than usual. Although summer is its flood season for the Yangtze river, the river is shrinking due to a lack of rainfall in the river basin this year and extremely high temperatures. In northern Jiangxi, the Jiujiang Maritime Bureau restricted traffic and only allow ships to pass at designated【指定的】periods due to low water levels.

Two pairs of buoys【浮标】used to be set up in the waterway for every two kilometers. Now we set up five pairs to ensure ships can navigate the waterway smoothly.

A dredging【清淤】barge was sent into the river around Jiujiang to clear out the mud and silt, providing an extra 3 meters of clearance for passing vessels. By 2 pm today, 264 red warnings for high temperature were issued across the country. Many places in the Sichuan basin hit 41 degrees early this afternoon. The continuous heat wave and shrinking water levels have caused power shortages in Sichuan. Hydroelectricity generation in the province has been cut in half, dropping from 900 million kilowatt-hours to about 450 million kilowatt-hours, and it keeps dropping by an average of 2% every day. In Chengdu, dozens of manufacturing facilities at the Longtan Industrial park had to close so that residents could have enough electricity. Some companies with refrigerated storage units had to rent diesel generators to keep their warehouses running. The large LED screen on Chunxi Road in downtown Chengdu has been powered down for two days. Air-conditioning temperature in public venues has been set 28 degrees. State Grid Sichuan Electric Power Company is now rationalizing【使合理化】electricity usage and asking other provinces for assistance.

Pence has been strategically trying to distance himself from former US President Donald Trump. Their paths diverged on Jan. 6, 2021, when a mob of angry Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in an effort to stop Congress’ formal certification of Joe Biden’s presidential victory. Trump denounced his vice president for refusing to object or delay the certification.
