国家航天局发布“羲和号”探日成果

The China National Space Administration yesterday announced the progress of Xihe, the country’s first solar observation satellite. Song Wenjing has more.

中国国家航天局昨天（8/30）发布了首颗太阳探测卫星“羲和号”取得的系列成果，记者宋文靖带来更多详细报道。

The satellite Xihe, named after the sun goddess in ancient myths, has carried out spectral【光谱的】scanning and imaging of the sun’s H-Alpha waveband, and has recorded solar activities in the star’s photosphere and chromosphere. Scientists said such data will help them understand solar eruptions【爆发】.

以古代神话中的太阳女神命名的“羲和”卫星对太阳的H-Alpha波段进行了光谱扫描成像，记录了太阳在光球层和色球层的活动过程。科学家们称，这些数据将大大提高他们对太阳爆发物理机制的认知。

There are more than 2,000 kilometers between the photosphere and chromosphere. The distance plays an important role in the dynamics of solar activities. The study of the distance will help us obtain more knowledge about solar phenomena, and prevent solar eruptions from effecting human activities.

光球和色球的跨度大致有2000多公里，这2000多公里实际上也是太阳活动起源的关键的一个层次，那么对这个关键层次对应分析，我们就能了解太阳活动，避免太阳爆发对我们人类产生一些危害。

Xihe was launched on October 14th, 2021, and is traveling in a sun-synchronous orbit about 517 kilometers above the Earth. It has observed almost 100 solar flares【爆发】.

“羲和号”在去年10月14日发射升空，运行在平均高度为517公里的太阳同步轨道，已经观测到了近百个太阳爆发活动。

We will launch an advanced solar observatory satellite in the fourth quarter of this year.

The accomplishments are expected to advance research on the sun and solar system, plus give China a bigger voice in the academic field of solar physics.

这些成果有望推动对太阳和太阳系的研究，并使中国在太阳物理学的学术领域有更大的发言权。

2. AI CONFERENCE OPENS TOMORROW IN SHANGHAI

2022世界人工智能大会将于9月1日在上海开幕

The 2022 World Artificial intelligence Conference will open tomorrow in Shanghai. The city’s Economy and Informatization Commission said the industry’s scale has been increasing since 2018 and an industrial cluster is taking place. Zhang Hong tells us more.

2022年世界人工智能大会将于明天（9/1）在上海开幕。上海市经济和信息化委员会表示，自2018年以来，该行业的规模不断扩大，产业集群正在形成。记者张泓带来更多详细报道。

At AI land in Zhangjiang, Cloudwalk Technology developed facial recognition and 3D human body reconstruction technology, which has been applied in real-life. For example, in a bank, the technology helps identify if it’s a real person, a photo or a screen. Now engineers are working to make AI smarter.

The country’s first four-arm laparoscopic robot can be used in chest and hip surgeries. The robot will debut【首次亮相】at the upcoming World Artificial intelligence Conference.

The laparoscopic robot works as the hands and eyes of a doctor. It can enlarge the footage, making surgery more accurate.

Shanghai is now able to produce 72,000 smart industrial robots each year, one-quarter of the nation’s total. An official from the city’s Economy and Informatization Commission said the upcoming World Artificial intelligence Conference is expected to further booster the AI sector, making it a new economic growth engine for the city.

上海智能工业机器人年产量已达7.2万台，占全国四分之一。上海市经济和信息化委员会的一位官员说，即将举行的世界人工智能大会有望进一步推动人工智能领域的发展，使其成为上海市新的经济增长引擎。

3. MISSISSIPPI GOVERNOR DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY

Heavy rain and flash floods recentlydrenched【使湿透】the central and southern regions of the southern U.S. state of Mississippi. The floods damaged a major water treatment plant in the state’s capital city of Jackson, cutting the supply of running water to around 180,000 people. The governor of Mississippi issued a state of emergency yesterday. Stephen Rancourt has more.

美国南部密西西比州中部和南部地区遭遇暴雨和洪水袭击，洪水破坏了该州首府杰克逊市一处主要供水厂，导致该市及周边约18万居民遭遇停水。昨天（8/30），该州州长宣布杰克逊市进入紧急状态。记者Stephen Rancourt带来更多详细报道。

The Government of the city of Jackson said the flooding of the Pearl River has created problems with treating water at a local facility. A major pump at the water treatment plant was said to have been damaged. It remains unclear when it will be fixed. The governor said adjustments to the water treatment process are being made and has led to a temporary decrease in the supply of water for some areas. Less water means less pressure in the system. Current pressure issues mean that Jackson and its surrounding areas which have approximately 180,000 residents are unable to get enough water toflush【冲洗】toilets, fight fires, and meet other critical needs.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has provided nearly 30 water trucks to help supplement the city, and they took on the job of distributing non-potable water and bottled drinking water. Many residents waited for hours in a line for a free case of bottled water at the distribution point. 700 caseswerehanded out within 2 hours. U.S. President Joe Biden yesterday approved the Emergency Declaration issued by Mississippi and ordered federal assistance to supplement the state’s response efforts. The Mississippi governor said that they have seen steady improvements in the system but the lower water pressure, could last a few more days.
