医院急诊室：日接诊患者超千人次医护人员坚守岗位全力救治

Across the city, emergency departments at hospitals are overloaded with people looking for help dealing with intense fever or even more severe symptoms. Many of the medical personnel are also infected with coronavirus, but they are doing their best to keep the emergency wards running. Stephen Rancourt has the story.

上海医院的急诊科已经超负荷运转，患者们普遍存在高热或更严重的症状。许多医护人员也感染了新冠，但仍然坚守岗位全力进行救治。记者Stephen Rancourt为您带来详细情况。

At 9 am, the lobby of the emergency ward was filled with patients. Emergency department received seven or eight ambulances in just one hour; six of the new arrivals were elderly.

The emergency ward is very busy. The average age of the patients here is over 80 years old; the eldest at the moment is 98.

This week, the number of emergency patients at the hospital has increased to 1,200 per day, double the usual number. The number of people in the resuscitation【苏醒】 room has tripled.

At Zhoupu Hospital, doctors and nurses are also busy at the door of the emergency department, where up to 8 ambulances can roll up at once.

The number of patients at Zhoupu Hospital has increased by a factor of four. Ambulances are being sent out to pick up patients more than eighty times a day. Once at the hospital, patients can suddenly collapse, and doctors and nurses have to intubate and resuscitate on the spot.

Doctors are asking people who are in a non-critical condition not to go to an emergency room at a hospital to look for treatment.

2.COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER OPENS FEVER TREATMENT KIOSK

社区卫生中心：核酸亭“变身”发热诊疗站

Many community health service centers in Shanghai are at full capacity. At one health center in Nanxiang Town in Jiading District, over 3,000 people showed up for medical services in a single day. To manage the surge, the center has opened a fever treatment kiosk【凉亭】 nearby. Stephen Rancourt once again.

上海的许多社区卫生服务中心都处于满员状态。在嘉定区南翔镇的一个卫生中心，一天之内就有超过3000人前来就诊。为了应对激增的患者人数，该中心在附近开设了一个发热诊疗亭。记者Stephen Rancourt再次为您带来报道。

This fever treatment kiosk near Nanxiang Town Community Health Service Center was once a PCR testing kiosk, and now receives more than 200 visits every day. Most of the people who come here are suffering from a cough and are running a fever. The kiosk is open between 8:30 am and 9 pm, people can consult with the general practitioner【（医学界或法律界的）从业人员】on duty, and buy medicine.

上海嘉定区南翔镇社区卫生服务中心附近的发热诊疗亭曾经是核酸检测亭，现在每天接待200多人次。前来就诊的大多数患者都患有发烧、咳嗽的症状。发热诊疗亭的工作时间是上午8点半到晚上9点，居民可以向值班的全科医生咨询病情和购买药品。

The community health service center had nearly 200 people on staff, but they are now down to only 90; 30 of them are general practitioners. They’re treating an average of1,500 patients per day. Many of the doctors here also need to put in time at the fever treatment kiosk after their shift.

The health center has set up a temporary room with 5 beds for medical workers to rest.

3. U.N. CHIEF CALLS FOR PUTTING PEACE AT CENTER OF ACTIONS, WORDS

United Nations General Secretary-General Antonio Guterres yesterday (12/28) called on all countries to place peace at the center of all their words and actions in his New Year video message.

The secretary-general said, in 2023, people need peace, now more than ever. Peace with one another, through dialogue to end conflict. Peace with nature and climate, to build a more sustainable world. He added peace is also needed inside families and homes, so women and girls can live in dignity and safety. In addition, he stated that there also needs to be peace online, so instead of disinformation, and conspiracy theories, all societies can enjoy the Internet free from hate speech and abuse.
