HEALTHCARE COMPANIES RESPOND QUICKLY DURING LOCKDOWNS

Foreign and local enterprises in the healthcare sector have overcome multiple challenges and have remained open since COVID-19 patients began increasing in March. Reporter Zhang Yue talked to two of them and tells us how they have been managing to ensure daily supplies.

French industrial and medical gas maker Air Liquide’s Qingpu plant has provided hundreds of medical oxygen gas tanks to Shanghai's COVID-19 makeshift hospitals as of mid-April. The company said its two offices and five plants in Shanghai have been fully prepared for a COVID-19 resurgence since early 2020, which helped it respond swiftly to increased demand for oxygen in the past month.

截至四月中下旬，法国液化空气集团的青浦工厂已充装了数百个医用氧气瓶供应上海的方舱医院，为抗疫最前线提供医用物资保障。早在2020年初，公司位于上海多个地点的办公室与工厂就已经开始参与封闭管理应急演练，让公司在过去一个月氧气瓶需求激增的情况下做出迅速反应。

We simulated some cases to see how fast we could react to closing the office, making sure everybody brings home their laptop, their tokens, everything needed to operate, is also something that helps us react at the beginning of March, when we started to see some numbers going up.

在模拟演练中，我们检测了在封闭管理办公室的情况下员工们是否可以快速反应，确保每位员工将电脑、密钥以及办公需要的所有东西带回家，保证工作不受到影响。这也有助于我们在三月初看到新冠肺炎病例数据上升时快速做出响应。

Making sure liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen are available for key industries such as electronics and petrochemical is a vital goal for the company.

除了医用氧气瓶，公司还尽力将液氧、液氮等钢瓶气及时输送到城市主要行业，比如说电子和石油化工行业。

We have some of our companies, entities in Shanghai on the white list of the 666 companies. They are already operating. And again the key for them would be how do we resume with some of our people still in lockdown at home to be able to reach the plant, to reach the office, to support industry, economy and hospital.

我们在上海的一些公司实体在666家企业复产复工白名单上。这些单位已经在运行中了，对于他们来说关键在于如何让更多被封控在家中的人员返回工厂或者办公室，来支持工业、经济的发展以及医院的顺利运行。

In Fengxian District, TCM producer Kaibao Pharmaceutical has also been working non-stop since the COVID-19 resurgence began in March. More than two thirds of its employees have remained at the company.

而从三月初开始，位于上海奉贤区的上海凯宝药业也一直在加班加点生产药物，三分之二的员工选择了驻厂工作。

As an emergency supplies requisitioning company, we have donated respiratory medicines worth 1.5 million yuan to various institutes and organizations. To maintain productivity, each of our workshops is relatively isolated from one another. Plus our administration department and manufacturing area are also separated. 我们向社会捐赠价值达150余万元的痰热清胶囊、口腔抑菌喷剂等防护药品，助力疫情防控。作为上海市应急物资征用单位，为了确保物资安全，我们第一时间制订了公司的疫情防控措施。例如，将生产区和行政区进行隔离，将生产区的每个车间进行相对隔离，以确保生产区人员和环境的安全。

Despite the challenges of logistics, transportation, and lack of personnel, companies like Air Liquide and Kaibao have been doing their best to make sure their trucks could reach essential industries, such as food processing, healthcare, and water treatment. Striking the balance between keeping safety of people by lockdowns versus making sure the economy continues to operate is pivotal for Shanghai at the moment.

尽管物流、交通、人员紧缺等苦难仍然存在，像法液空和凯宝这样的公司一直在尽最大努力把产品及时运送到重点行业，包括食品加工、医院、水处理等单位。通过闭环管理、检测等手段保障人员安全，另一方面恢复经济运转，如何把握二者之间的平衡是上海目前的重中之重。
