Ep1. "Z世代说二十大"GenZers on the CPC and Plans

Hi everyone! I'm Shen Xiaoya, SMG's Gen Z host. The 20thCPC National Congress has just concluded, after unveiling main objectives and tasks for the next five years and more.

大家好，我是上海广播电视台的虚拟主持人申䒕雅，我也是Z世代。中国共产党第二十次全国代表大会刚刚结束，科学谋划了未来党和国家事业发展的目标任务和大政方针。

The report to the opening session said "A nation will prosper only when its young people thrive". So I thought it was important to learn what GenZers both home and abroad knew about the recent CPC National Congress, the roles of CPC members and the new blueprint for the Party and the country.

党的二十大报告提出："青年强，则国家强。"因此，我觉得了解海内外的Z世代的想法很重要，包括他们眼中的二十大、中共党员、中国共产党和中国未来的发展蓝图。

In our first episode, I will ask GenZers’ insights on the CPC.

第一集，我们来一起看看Z世代如何回答这些问题。

问题1：

What is your impression of CPC members?

你对党员有什么印象？

林悦儿（澳门）：

I can see that some my classmates here are very committed to joining the party. For example, my roommates. They have a spirit of dedication.

我看我身边的同学，他们有的都很积极地入党，像我的室友们，他们就是他们有一种奉献的精神吧。

陈婧（上海）：

There is no difference between party members and ordinary people. But they have warm hearts, and try to contribute to the society and to all people.

党员和普通人没有什么区别，但是他们通常比较热心肠，愿意服务社会和人民。

茹菲娜·艾尔肯（新疆）：

Maybe it's because my parents are both party members, When I was young,they would always teach me that in addition to studying hard.

我可能是因为我的父母他们都是党员的缘故吧，所以在我小的时候他们会经常教导我说，除了要好好学习之外，一定要多去帮助那些有需要帮助的人们。

诺亚（肯尼亚）：

The CPC is “systematic”, absolutely “systematic”, if I had to use one word.

中国共产党是系统性的、体制化的，如果我需要用词语来描述的话。

吴顾琳（上海）：

I think that “Communist Party Member” is not just a title. It is a strength and a spirit.

我觉得共产党员不仅仅是一个名称，它更是一种力量，一种精神。

问题2：

How do you understand “whole-process people’s democracy”?

你如何理解全过程人民民主？

张逸笑（浙江）：

We have exercised our legal authority before by voting in the National People's Congress. "Whole-process people's democracy" means all capable people are involved in the practice of democracy in China, and a reencouraged to participate in China’s democratic process.

我们在之前有行使过法律权利，去给人大代表投票，全过程民主就是所有有能力的人都参与到中国的民主实践当中来。为中国的民主进程建言献策。

陈婧（上海）：

People have been paid more attention when making the political agenda.

在制定政治议程时，人民被给予了更多的关注。

问题3:

What do you think is the significance of the 20thCPC national Congress?

你觉得为什么要开二十大？

诺亚（肯尼亚）：

(The Congress shows) how it has represented its people. People from all walks of life. Farmers, teachers, you know, local leaders and, of course, national leaders.

我觉得二十大同时也聚焦人民，包括来自各行各业的人，比如农民、教师、地方领导人，当然还有国家领导人。

何莉萍（缅甸）：

Guiding the people to pay attention, and attach importance to issues that they need to take notice of.

全面让人民去关注一些，就是重视一些人民需要关注的问题。

张逸笑（浙江）：

For China, I think it probably will show the direction for the second Centenary. Under the circumstances of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the European energy crisis. It is quite essential to map out China’s future development. The 20th Party Congress, I believe, is a very vital meeting that will play an important role in the current state of the world.

为接下来中国的第二个百年奋斗目标之类指明方向吧，在现在俄乌冲突，然后欧洲能源危机等等。这样的局面的情况下，那为中国指明道路其实是非常重要的。党的二十大，我相信，它就是在这样的世界格局当中，起到非常重要作用的一次会议。

问题4:

What do you think has been the most important signal from the 20th CPC National Congress?

二十大传递的信号中你印象最深的是什么？

诺亚（肯尼亚）：

Global growth. For example, the Belt and Road Initiative, which is really abig thing.

全球发展，举个例子 比如“一带一路”，这实在是一件大事。

蒙田（广西）：

China's door is, to the outside world, it is wide open. And it will open up even more than in the previous decade.

中国的大门对世界来说是敞开的，并且会比过去更加开放。

问题5:

What does “Xiaokang” or being moderately prosperous mean to you?

小康对你来说意味着什么？

徐牧川（中国，现居美国加州）：

"Xiaokang" or “Well off” now means having a better life and having access to more opportunities and platforms to showcase our ideas.

“小康”意味着得到更好的生活，也同时给予更多的机会和平台来展示我们的想法。

茹菲娜·艾尔肯（新疆）：

My quality of life and standard of living has improved. I am able to learn and grow in a better environment. I think this is a representation of peace and happiness.

是提高了我的生活质量和水平，能够让我在更好的环境当中去学习和成长。我认为这更代表着一种安稳和幸福吧。

问题6:

What is the “Chinese path to modernization” in your view?

你眼中的“中国式现代化”是怎样的？

吴顾琳（上海）：

Modernization in harmony with human beings and nature. There has been re-greening in my neighborhood in the past few years. Many cultural and sports parks have also been established in recent years. I feel closer to nature.

是人与自然和谐共生的现代化。像我家附近这几年有了越来越多的绿化，最近几年也建了很多文化公园、体育公园，我感觉我们和自然的距离更加近了。

林悦儿（澳门）：

In terms of urban development for example, Shanghai is an international metropolis, instead of developing like the big cities in other countries, It has kept its own regional characteristics, which you can deeply feel.

比如说城镇的发展。虽然上海是国际化大都市，但它也不是一味地发展成像其他国家的大城市一样的模式，就是有自己的一个上海的特色，你能够深深地感受在里面。

问题7:

How do you understand “Common Prosperity”?

你怎么理解“共同富裕”？你觉得怎么才能达到共同富裕？

苏玲玉（俄罗斯）：

"Common Prosperity" means while increasing the country’s wealth and maintaining its development, improving people’s quality of life isn’t forgotten.

“共同富裕”就是在增加国家的财富、国家发展的同时，不要忘记改善人民生活。

吴顾琳（上海）：

Mobility between cities has increased. People who live in big cities can go to other cities, while those from small towns can also get jobs and live in major urban centers. I believe this will help more people to realize their value.

城市之间的流动也都越来越好了。像在大城市的人可以到其他城市去，在其他小城市的人也可以到大城市来工作生活，我觉得这样可以帮助更多的人实现自己的价值。

问题8:

What do you think are some of the responsibilities and commitments of Genzers?

你认为Z世代青年的责任和担当是什么？

阿热爱乐（新疆）：

Instead of focusing on individuals, we focus on the future of everyone on Earth, by estimating social demands and creating long-term value. We can do many things day-to-day to prevent the generation of waste, such as buying eco-friendly products like reusable bags, water and bottles. Little by little, things will get better. There are mobile apps, where users are encouraged to record how they’ve reduced their carbon footprint by taking public transport or paying utility bills online. Generation Z is dedicated to bringing about a new green era through sustainable development and environmental protection.

我们不仅仅关注个人，而是关注地球上所有人的未来。根据社会需求和创造长期价值，我们可以采取很多措施，来减少垃圾的产生。比如购买环保袋，可重复利用的水和瓶子。积少成多，集腋成裘，世界也会变得更美好。现在有很多应用软件，用户可以记录自己是如何通过乘坐公共交通工具和电子支付减少碳足迹的，Z世代践行可持续发展与环保的生活方式，引领了一个新的绿色时代。

文竹 （重庆）：

The greatest responsibility of young people in this age of internet celebrity and of extremely fast and widespread information dissemination, is to find something that validates them and committing to it. For me, I want to be able to excel in the field of law. As the social environment is rapidly changing, it is important to identify new social problems and to improve social institutions and legal framework, which is why the law is constantly being updated. I hope to be able to contribute to society and protect the rights of the people.

青年人最大的责任就是在这个网红福利高涨、信息传播极其快速且广泛的社会时代下，依然能够找到可以实现自身价值的事情，并且不断坚持。对我自己来说，我非常希望自己能够在法律这个领域做到精益求精。在瞬息万变的社会环境当中，不断去发现新产生的社会问题，完善社会制度和法律条约，这也是法律持续更新的原因。能够做到规范社会，保障更多人的权利。

黄悦盈（北京）：

I am a foreign language major. Today’s society involves an unpredictable international situation and a complex online environment. As younger people, we have a responsibility to exploit our creativity in terms of how we communicate with the world. It reminds me of the evacuation of overseas Chinese citizens that occurred several years ago. I’m more respectful of Chinese government and diplomats who have made great efforts in protecting Chinese citizens. As a Chinese GenZer, I feel proud.

我是一名外语专业的学生，在国际局势变幻莫测、网络环境日益复杂的今天，我们更有责任发挥自己的创造力，用年轻化的语言搭建沟通世界的桥梁。结合前些年海外撤侨的事件，我们更是为中国外交官、中国政府在保护每位公民上所做出的努力感到由衷的敬意。作为一名中国00后，我感到很骄傲。
