Wonderfully Made The Power of God – Psalm 139:13-18 Psalm 139:13-18 Power – How Much and What if? Daily consumption - > million terajoules per day 7.5 billion boiling kettles 24/7 Average – fifty devices that are drawing power daily Energy demand projected to triple by 2050 Psalm 139, David considered God's power Psalm 139 – David’s awe of the attributes of God Omniscience, Omnipresence, Omnipotence God’s Mighty Work and Power: God's Work Is Marvelous (v. 14) God’s Craftsmanship is Meticulous (vv. 13-16) God's Wisdom Is Measureless (vv. 17-18) 1. GOD'S WORKS ARE MARVELOUS (V. 14) Psalm 139:14 NKJV … Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. Marvelous פָּלָא = wonderful, miraculous His works are incomparable Majesty of the heavens – the vastness of the universe Intricacies of the human body – microscopic “machines” at work in body To illustrate God's power, David turned inward – human body Human’s – God’s crowning creation in the image of God Gen 1:26-27 David described God operating full strength – not deficient in power - "mighty" fifty-seven times Job 42:2 "I know that You can do everything, And that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You. Gabriel to Mary about Jesus' birth, “For with God nothing will be impossible.” Luke 1:37 Matt 19:26 (salvation) Are things God cannot or will not do? anything out of harmony with His nature and character Lying (see Hebrews 6:18) – “… it is impossible for God to lie” Not loving (see 1 John 4:7) – “…for love is of God” Approving of sin (see Habakkuk 1:13) – “You are of purer eyes … and cannot look on wickedness.” Tempt or be tempted (see James 1:13) – “for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.” 2. GOD'S WISDOM IS MEASURELESS (VV. 17-18) Psalm 139:17-18 David stirred by God’s thoughts of him More than the sand!! 75,000,000,000,000,000,000 grains Powerful Creator is also our Sustainer and Nurturer Not only aware of you – He is concerned for you and cares for you Our knowledge of God's strength and wisdom should influence our lives Peace, comfort and boldness – faith in His power His thoughts of love for you have provided salvation for you John 3:16 1John 4:9-10 NLT DO YOU KNOW HIM?
