Christian B. talks about what it's been like being an apprentice distiller and learning how to distill Brandy for his wife's family apple orchard. We also get real with discussing the 2020 Election + how we as Christian's should respond to it and others, despite if it's "our guy" who ends up in the White House.

NOTES:

  • Show Notes:
    • Successful people all have one thing in common: A strong, positive mindset.
    • It's not whether or not we face hardship in life... but rather how we respond to life's difficulty. Learn from the past but be focused on the future.
    • Christian B. talks about what it's been like being an apprentice distiller and learning how to distill Brandy at his wife's family apple orchard.
    • We learn that if you distill a fruit, you can't call it a whiskey (it's Brandy)... because whiskey has to be made from a grain.
    • We talk about how the 2020 Election has and is impacting us + how we as Christian's should respond to it and others, despite if it's "our guy" who ends up in the White House.
    • Despite 2020 being what it has been... God is still in control and on The Throne.
    • We won't change anyone's mind with our political posts or comments on social media, so save your time, energy and emotions for the people who matter most and are physically present in your life.
    • As Christian's, our first allegiance is to God and what He thinks about us and how we are living our lives (or how we are voting and what we are supporting) and a big part of putting God first, is putting how we treat each other (specifically those we disagree with) above our politics and differences.
    • Young people use to be taught HOW to think, not WHAT to think.
    • We used to be able to have discussions and debates about the truth and quality of ideas... but now instead of being able to have rational discussion about if an idea is good or bad... it's largely based on who the person is that says the idea that determines if the idea has merit or not (race and identity politics).
      • It's no longer the ideas we talk about that are determined to be good or bad... but the person talking about the idea gets labeled as good or bad.
    • There is a lot of inadvertent racism these days, when we give favoritism (good or bad) to any particular group of people based on the race or the way they look... God is VERY opposed to any sort of partiality, as it shows up all through scripture (even if the intention is good).
    • Common Grace means that all truth is God's truth and if you live according to God' principles, even if you don't know or love God), your life will generally be better.
    • Contrasting President Trump (and his record of accomplishments over his 4 year term) & Biden: When it comes to politicians (and people in general), we need to be deep thinkers and able to look past a person's personality and how polished their speech is (or how bombastic and abrasive their speech is), to what they ACTUALLY stand for and do (rather then just what they say).
    • If we are going to use God's standard of leaders needing to be "above reproach", that would likely disqualify all politicians (not just President Trump).
    • It starts with us: We need to be honest and consistent with our standard we use to judge the other side... by also applying the same logic and scrutiny to our own ideas and consumption of information that we likely already agree with.
    • The media is culpable for restricting the American peoples ability to know what is really happening by not simply reporting the news anymore. A news organization should not start with their bias and pre-determined narrative and then make sure to only report bias, editorialized information that supports that narrative, while disregarding everyone else.
      • I had to go digging for what President Trump has actually done during his 4 years in office and I was stunned to find out how much good policies, diplomacy and results were accomplish under his... because they were too busy being outraged and "fact checking" his tweets and not focusing on the substantive things He actually did.
    • Always take the "high road". As Christian, we are called to "turn the other cheek". How we respond to our enemies and those who disagree with us matter.
    • We need to stay grounded in Scripture to not give in to the current cultural moment of de-humanizing and assuming the worse about people who don't agree with us politically (We probably both want good things for our families, others and this country but we disagree on what that is that will get us there).
    • How we talk about politics and the "other side" in our house will have a huge impact on what our kids pick up as the norm for how we treat people we disagree with.
