What an interesting backdrop to high performance representing your country - a sports science degree from DCU, work with sky sports (focused on resilience and promotion of sport), and the role as Director of Sport at the Institute of Education. With that last one...Brian focuses on promoting wellbeing, physical activity, decreasing stress and ensuring students establish a pattern of healthy living which will be sustained into adult life. This year he will be a teacher as part of the PE curriculum.
Brian speaks with us about resilience and grit - as he has suffered serious injuries running since 2008, and was even told at 15 he would never run again. We unpack strategies to refocus after adversity and setbacks - in relation to the Olympic games.
Other areas discussed include performance psychology (mention to Jessie Barr!), preparation, organisation, the process, and what a normal week of training looks like for Brian in the Irish institute of Sport.
