The World of the Unseen

by David Sacks

“For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance, he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.” — Robert Jastrow Professor of Geophysics at Columbia University and Director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies

Do you believe all that exists can be seen with your eyes?

Or are there realms that exist, some dwarfing even our own, that remain completely hidden?

Up until recently, if you attested to the unseen, you were called a believer.

For good reason. The unseen was the ballroom where mystics gathered.

Then slowly but surely, scientists started crashing the party.

When Louis Pasteur discovered that the microbes in unpasteurized milk were causing illness, the villagers laughed at him.

How can germs be there if you can’t see them?

But Pasteur was right, and they were wrong. Countless lives were saved, and microbiology was born.

Today, physicists, astronomers, and mathematicians, all understand that there are entire dimensions beyond our own that exist that can’t be seen.

I don’t know if they’ve given them names yet.

But I wonder if one day, they’ll realize it’s heaven.
