In 1998, as the Monday Night Wars were in full effect, each promotion tried to bring a different draw to their show. WCW leaned on its previously established relationships with professional athletes like Kevin Greene and Dennis Rodman, going so far as to feature Dennis Rodman and Karl Malone on separate sides of as tag team match at WCW Bash At the Beach 1998. WWE went in a different direction, leaning on the legitimate fighting background of two of their own wrestlers, Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn, both former UFC fighters. At a time when the UFC was viewed as nothing more than human cockfighting, it was a risky move and yet at Summerslam 1998, it paid off as Ken Shamrock took on Owen Hart, who had been taught and trained by Dan Severn, in the first ever Lion's Den Match
