Go off King: get it off your chest! Studies show 5-10% of Black Men suffer from depression, however what is more alarming is the statistics for the suicide rate among Black males has increased by 60%. Why is this? Why are our Black Men suffering in silence? Black men are in crisis and we need a new game plan to help. A first great step is offering a safe space amongst themselves that allow them to be honest when it comes to everyday things such as, fatherhood, marriage, overcoming childhood trauma, manhood, & etc. Highlighting Black men’s mental well-being does not detract from the recognition of that pain, but in fact strengthens the need for all of us to divest from harmful masculine ideals. Let’s talk about it! What does manhood mean to you? This is just the beginning of creating safe space for these hard discussions to take place.
