上一期的Podcast中，法国人梅莉和翩翩跟大家分享了how to make international friends（如何交国际朋友），今天的节目里，美国女孩Selah会分享一下她在美国的经验，和大家聊一聊，美国人是怎样交朋友的。

1. Selah的交友情况

Selah有4-5 closest friends，这些朋友基本上都是are around her age and stage of life（年龄相近，处于相似的人生阶段）。

Selah和这些朋友，有的是打小就认识，但大多数是in college or after（大学阶段或之后）认识的。

能和这些人成为朋友主要有3个原因：

(1) 他们都处于the same stage of life（相似的人生阶段），going through the same things together（共同经历着相同的事情）。

(2) Selah has similar interests as them（兴趣相投）, they enjoy doing the same activities together（喜欢一起做同样的活动）.

(3) 而且，they have similar personalities（有相似的个性），能够make each other better people（让彼此变得更好）。

2. 美国人之间是怎么交朋友的

他们在一起会玩什么？

户外活动：travel, go to new places, go to coffee shops, go thrifting（淘二手货）；

室内活动：cook new recipes（尝试做一种新菜）, play board games（玩棋盘游戏） and watch movies

说到watch movies，这里就比较能看出中西方的文化差异：

美国人说看电影，真的只是一起看电影，看完电影，不会有hanging out（闲逛），也不会闲聊。

美国人如果一段时间不见，也只是会坐下聊聊天，catch up on life（聊聊彼此的近况）。

欧美人看来，朋友身上有哪些特征，会比较吸引人？

好多欧美人在列举择友特征的时候，都会列出being open-minded（思想开放）, adventurous（有冒险精神）, and willing to have deep conversations（乐意进行深度交谈） and be involved in each other’s lives（能参与到彼此的生活中）。

being open-minded指的是敢于尝试新的或者能接受不同的事物，比如，trying new foods, meeting someone who is different from you（去见和自己不同的人），或者是being friends with someone that has a very different opinion on something（与对某件事有不同看法的人成为朋友）。

being adventurous主要是指敢于尝试something new，比如driving to a new restaurant，taking a trip somewhere new，going sky diving（高空跳伞）。

美国人交朋友，会比较讨厌什么人呢？

They do not like shallow people who care a lot about their persona or image. 不喜欢那些关注自己的人设与形象的人，他们会觉得这样的人比较肤浅。

*persona /pərˈsoʊnə/ n. 人设

他们更喜欢people that want to try new things and learn about the world around them（敢于尝试，鲜活真实的、想探索周围世界的人），这样的人，在方方面面都是very diverse（丰富多样的），生命的层次比较丰富。

对美国人Selah而言，她的美国朋友做什么时，会让她觉得感动、感恩？

都是一些花钱不多，简单的小事情，比如，surprise her with coffee（一杯惊喜的咖啡），cook for her（充满爱的一顿饭），mail her cards or letters（邮寄来的卡片或信件），call and check in on her（电话问候）。

在美国，书信来往正在变得more trendy and more popular（更加流行）。如果朋友写信或卡片给你，那意味着有they are really thinking of you（他们真的在挂念你）。

其他的暖心方式还有，朋友spend intentional time wanting to know her（特意花时间来了解她），倾听、提问都很好，这会让Selah觉得，朋友真的很在意她。

当朋友突破自己的comfort zone（舒适区），去陪你go on adventures（冒险）的时候，真的会让人觉得感动。比如说，Selah听说了一家很不错的餐馆，朋友愿意带着她drive a few hours 去尝一尝。

大部分美国人都喜欢跟哪种人格特性的人交往？

It depends on people’s personalities and what they prefer. 还是要分人，看个人交友偏好。

总的说来，根据人的个性会分introverts（内向的人）和extrovert（外向的人），they typically like hanging out with different types of people（不同的人喜欢跟不同类型的人交往）。

There are those that are life of the party（外向一些的人，比较喜欢参加party）, or those that prefer a few close-knit friends（内向一点的欧美人更喜欢三五知己相聚）。

*close-knit adj. (指一群人)关系亲密的

美国人眼中，“有趣”的人是什么样的？

那些have had diverse and interesting lives（生活经历比较多样化、有趣）的人，是比较受欢迎的。

最有趣的人，大概是这样的: have travelled far（去过很远的地方）, lived many lives（过着丰富多姿的生活）, and had a variety of experiences（有着丰富多彩的经历）。

除此之外，美国人眼中的有趣还包括：being smart, successful, or accomplished（聪明、成功、或有成就）。

跟欧美人交朋友的过程、方式，和中国人之间交朋友很不一样，为什么呢？

There is a big difference between how Americans and Chinese make friends.欧美人之间初见很热情，但真正熟起来不容易；但中国人之间，初见可能比较拘谨，再见就是熟人了。

美国人take a long time to warm up to new people（跟新人相处比较慢热），尤其是if they do not have much in common or are from a different country（彼此没有什么共同点，或者是和外国人相处的时候）。他们更喜欢do activities with their friends（和朋友一起做事情）。

他们会通过这些方式和新认识的人熟起来：

Do activities such as sports, going out, playing games.

当然，不同的年龄段熟悉起来的方式也会有所不同。年轻人更喜欢go out and drink and party，但older will mostly spend time in each other’s houses（去彼此家里），or at activities together（一起参加一些活动，比如sport events, church activities等等）。

如果你要跟欧美人交朋友的话，这个文化差异一定要提前了然于胸，否则你可能在后面几次交往的时候，会发现对方没有你想象中热情。

总结一下，美国人和中国人交朋友方面的文化的差异：

差异一：

Chinese people are more likely to just ask someone to be their friend.中国人更倾向于让某人成为自己的朋友，然后双方照这个角色努力实践。

Americans take much longer time to warm up to people and to officially call them friends. 美国人需要更长的时间熟络起来，然后会正式地说他们成为了朋友。

差异二：

Chinese people will often exchange gifts to show they are friends. 中国人交朋友喜欢互送礼物，这是我们表达爱的方式之一。

Americans spend more time together to count as being friends. 而美国人看来，朋友之间，花更多的时间在一起才算是朋友。

在美国，跟美国人相处特别好的中国人是什么样子的？

首先语言上是相通的，ones that speak the best English（英文超级棒）；

在美国待过一段时间的，而且understand American culture（相当了解美国文化），一般都是the Chinese people that spend the most time here（在当地生活过很久）。

那些try to learn about American traditions, culture（尽力了解美国传统和文化）的人，做到了跨文化交际，会赢得对方的尊重，也会motivate the Americans （激发美国人）了解我们的中国文化。

A true friendship must go both directions. 真正的友谊，一定是双向奔赴的！

总之一句话，跟欧美人交朋友，不必花钱买礼物，going and doing activities with them is a recipe for success（和他们一起做一些事是成功的秘诀）。
