The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other&`&s welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

德雷克·沃尔科特 (1930- )，生于圣·卢西亚（位于东加勒比海），诗人，剧作家及画家。1992年诺贝尔文学奖得主，获奖理由为“以其植根于多种文化的历史想象力作出了光辉的诗作”。他的祖父母均为非洲奴隶。
第一次读到这首诗是在Audrey Niffenegger的The Time Traveler's Wife（《时间旅行者的妻子》）前言部分，这也是一本动人的小说。
