Bible Study with Jairus – Numbers 14Understanding the Power of the Soul Through Numbers 14When reading Numbers 14, we come across what at first appears to be an inconsistency in the text. Why is it that verse 24 (ESV) says, "But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he w…

One of the ways the Holy Spirit speaks to us is by highlighting. Whether we’re reading the Bible or using prophetic gifts to prophesy, the Holy Spirit often points out something important that we should pay attention to. This is called highlighting. For example, when a person with prophetic gifts is getting ready to prophesy, they often start “peopl…

During exhausting and depleting times, we all yearn for rest, refreshment, restoration, and hope. Acts 3:19 promises a wonderful blessing to God’s people: “times of refreshing” which come straight “from the presence of the Lord.” (NASB)These times of refreshing are not just a vague memory from the past or a vague hope for the future. Instead, they …

Acts 15 tells us three stories. The first story is about Paul and Barnabas getting into a fierce argument with people about the need to circumcise the Gentiles. Peter and James responded saying that God had chosen the Gentiles. The second story is the sending of Judas and Silas to Antioch to comfort the brothers and sisters of Gentiles. The third s…

Bible Study with Jairus – Acts 7In Acts 7, we find the story of Stephen being stoned to death. As we consider Stephen’s tragic death, we see two types of people: people of faith and people of fear. Stephen, a person of faith, saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God. The angry crowd, people of fear, could not see the heavens opened. Instead, the…

Caring in love and ministering in the Word of GodBible Study with Jairus – Acts 6Acts 6 is very brief. In the past, my understanding was that these Greek-speaking widows were neglected, and the apostles were too busy to take care of them. The apostles said that the more important thing is to pay attention to the word of God (verse 2). There was no …

Bible Study with Jairus - Acts 5Acts 5 begins with the story of Ananias and Sapphira lying to the Holy Spirit about the proceeds of the land sale. The Holy Spirit punished them severely for keeping some of the proceeds for themselves, while claiming they had given it all. Ananias and Sapphira’s sin doesn’t seem very serious, so why was the punishme…

Bible Study with Jairus - Acts 4Acts 4 tells the story of Peter healing a lame man. For 40 years, the man had been begging for food at the temple gates with no hope of healing in sight. However, the lame man's faith and perseverance finally cured him. When Peter met him, he was healed instantly. We can learn an important lesson from the lame man. In…

Bible Study With Jairus – Acts 2Acts 2 introduces us to some hotly debated topics: tongues, dreams, visions, and the infilling of the Spirit. Even though these topics are controversial among Christians, most Christians do not deny the historical events in this chapter. What Christians cannot agree upon is whether such experiences still occur today.…

Bible Study with Jairus - Acts 1Different perspectives lead to different understandingsA fellow Christian once asked me how believers are able to effectively understand and interpret the teachings and lessons from the book of Acts. He wanted to know how believers from different churches and denominations can come to a similar conclusion as they rea…

Bible Study with Jairus – Leviticus 12Leviticus 12 is a short but intriguing chapter. In this discussion, we will focus on the specific laws, which may seem strange to us today. This chapter describes how when a woman gives birth to a son, she will be ceremonially unclean for seven days and must stay at home for 33 days, but when she gives birth to…

The Intercession of the Holy spiritBible Study with Jairus – Romans 8Defining the Groaning of the SpiritRomans 8 is a very familiar chapter for Christians. Many are familiar with verses such as, "For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death" (ESV, Romans 8:2) and "For to set the mind on the flesh …

Victory in JesusBible Study with Jairus – Romans 5Romans 5 continues the discussion of justification by faith, and takes it a step further. This chapter reassures believers that if they were reconciled to God while they were still his enemies, how much more will they be saved by his life! (ESV, Romans 5:10). In the second half of the chapter, Roman…

Paul’s Letters to the RomansBible Study with Jairus – Romans 2Judging OthersThe first paragraph (verses 1-16) of Romans 2 discusses Paul’s criticism of self-righteous people. For example, verse 1 says, “You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, becaus…

Understanding Jehovah’s CommandsBible Study with Jairus – Leviticus 17Consuming BloodLeviticus 17 talks about Jehovah’s command against consuming blood. Our discussion focuses on why God does not allow blood to be consumed. Of course, in addition to health and hygiene considerations, there are also spiritual considerations.I was contemplating this …

In chapters 13 and 14 God gave Moses detailed instructions on how leprosy should be handled by the priests. I was puzzled reading these chapters wondering why God spent so much time discussing the details of this disease. What spiritual significance do these chapters hold for us today?Because I was travelling, I did not participate in the Bible rea…

Bible Study with Jairus- Romans 11In chapter 11, Paul focuses on how salvation came to the Gentiles because of the Israelites unbelief. He discussed how God’s salvation would come to the Jews again, and all Israel will be saved when the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. A man in our study questioned Romans 11:32, “For God has consigned all to d…

Bible Study with Jairus – Romans 10Romans 9 talks about the Israelites being temporarily abandoned by God. The Gentiles—who did not pursue righteousness—were instead justified by faith (Romans 9:30). Meanwhile, the Israelites who were pursuing a law that would lead to righteousness failed to reach that law (Romans 9:31). Why? And what warning does …

Bible Study with Jairus – Romans 6The subject of Romans 6 is about being united with Christ, including the experience of death and resurrection with Christ (Romans 6:1-5). Paul specifically mentioned that our old man was crucified with Christ. The sinful flesh has already been annulled (Romans 6:6-16), so we should consider ourselves alive to God i…

Justification by FaithBible Study with Jairus – Romans 4Romans 4 continues the theme of justification by faith, which Paul introduced in Romans 1:17: "The righteous shall live by faith." (ESV) Romans 5 builds on the concepts of justification by faith which are discussed in chapter 4. Romans 5 begins, "Therefore, since we have been justified by fait…

Bible Study with Jairus – Romans 3When we first read Romans 3, we felt that there was some confusion in the logic. For example, Paul asked a question in the first verse: "What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision?" (Romans 3:1, NIV). Then he answered this question in the second verse. He said: "Much in ev…

Bible Study with Jairus - Leviticus 16The man who led our Bible study on Leviticus 16 asked a good question. When the high priest stood before God and used the blood to make atonement, did the Israelites still have sin (verses 14-15)? Clearly, the sprinkling of blood only covered sin temporarily. It didn't take the sin away forever. In the New Test…

God’s GuidanceBible Study with Jairus – 1 Corinthians 7Have you ever been in a situation where you faced a tough decision? How did you deal with the ambiguity and uncertainty? Often, when we don’t know what to do, we search for a dogmatic command from God to eliminate all uncertainty. However, God wants us to get to know him personally and accept h…

Dreams of Heaven and the Underworld PrefaceIs Jesus real? Does God exist? Is the Bible true? Is there really a heaven? Although these are questions people have asked for centuries, they are also relevant questions today because people of every generation continue to ask them. What is the Truth?I once heard a story that illustrates this. When Hudson…

Their summit meeting was the first in history, and Trump became later known for being the first sitting U.S. president to have ent…

Bible Study with Jairus – 1 Corinthians 5 Seeing With Spiritual EyesWe are challenged when reading 1 Corinthians 5 because the Corinthians were arrogant (weak in dealing with the wicked and arrogant towards God) and did not remove the wicked from their midst. Paul’s spirit gathered with them there, and only after Paul judged the wicked in the spiri…

Knowing Christ Intimately: The Peace OfferingBible Study with Jairus – Leviticus 3Have you ever wished you could develop a more intimate relationship with God? Leviticus 3 gives us a tangible example of ever-increasing closeness to God. As worshipers offered their sacrifices--smaller lambs and goats and larger cattle--they depicted the experience o…

Closeness with God through PrayerBible Study with Jairus - Numbers 28Habits of Gratitude and PrayerHave you ever been speeding through a parking lot when your car suddenly jolted, bouncing violently up and down? You hit a speed bump. The purpose of speed bumps is to force us to slow down our vehicle and pay attention to our surroundings. In the sam…

Bible Study with Jairus - RuthThe book of Ruth is comprised of only four short chapters, but it’s a very important book in the Bible. It serves as a link between the past and the future. It’s preceded by the historical account of chaotic Israel in the book of Judges for hundreds of years or more. It’s a cycle in which the Israelites turned their ba…

Bible Study with Jairus – PhilippiansToday’s study will mainly focus on one topic: how to manifest Christ in our lives. What does it mean to manifest Christ? It’s what Paul said in Philippians 1:20-21 (NIV), “I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in …

Bible Study with Jairus - GalatiansThis evening we are going to quickly go through several chapters of Galatians. This morning when I attended an American Evangelical Community Church, the pastor used a term called SBNR which means spiritual but not religious. This pastor was criticizing people who don’t participate in church activities and are not…

Bible Study with Jairus – Romans 9Referring to the Old Testament, Romans 9:13 says, "As it is written, 'Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.'” A Christian asked in the meeting, “Why did God hate Esau? Isn’t the word hate too strong in tone? Why did God choose Jacob instead of Esau? How do we understand God's choice? How do we know that we are chosen by…

We often talk about personal topics or current events before our Bible Study begins. Often, by the time we finish reading the scripture for that particular day, we find that it answers questions or confusion about the previous topics discussed. The purpose of reading the Bible is not to simply read it, but to solve the problems we face every day an…

Bible Study With Jairus - Leviticus 8- Aaron’s Anointing and The Modern Day Mercy SeatFor today’s study, we’re going to look at several questions from a woman who wondered how we are to understand the meaning behind the story of Moses putting the anointing oil on the high priest. To her, it seemed that since the content of this chapter had already …

Bible Study With Jairus – Leviticus 2- Grain Offerings, Leaven, and LegalismLeviticus 2:11-12 says: “No grain offering that you bring to the Lord shall be made with leaven, for you shall burn no leaven nor any honey as a food offering to the Lord. As an offering of first fruits you may bring them to the Lord, but they shall not be offered on the al…

God Moves Towards UsBible Study With Jairus – Leviticus 1God’s Care for Young Believers. When we read Leviticus, we are often discouraged by its complexity and the excessive details of the sacrificial system. However, if we look at this from another angle, every minute detail is necessary to truly depict the gentleness of God’s character and the de…

God’s Perfect PlanBible Study with Jairus – Acts 9Peter and PaulIn Acts 9, we see an abrupt transition from the transformation of Saul/Paul (vs. 1-30) to the story of Peter’s ministry (vs. 31-32). Why this abrupt transition? Why does the storyline seem incoherent and inconsistent? To answer this question, let’s look back briefly at chapters 7 and 8.…

Dissension in the Body of Christ.Bible Study with Jairus - 1 Corinthians 4Rivalry in the Church. In 1 Corinthians 4:6, Paul urged the Corinthians not to idolize him or his coworker, Apollos. Paul said, "I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that n…

The Mercy and Justice of GodNumbers 27As we consider Numbers 27 today, it may seem puzzling that the story of Zelophehad’s daughters is juxtaposed with the story of Moses not getting to enter the promised land. Why are these stories put together in the Bible? Moses’ Lack of Gentleness Perhaps when dealing with Zelophehad’s daughters, Moses made the…

We Are About to Reach the TopSean Song, May 9, 2021Climbing Over the MountainIt is likely that right now many people in the body of Christ feel disappointment in one or many areas of their lives. I recently had a few dreams that encouraged me. I think they may be an encouragement for all of us. We are almost at the mountaintop and a great show prep…

Bible Study with Jairus – Leviticus 9The Threefold Office of Christ in Leviticus 9My heart was stirred and inspired by Leviticus 9, which begins in verse 1 with the powerful statement that, “On the eighth day Moses called Aaron and his sons and the Elders of Israel” (English Standard Version). The subsequent parts of Chapter 9 detail Moses’ inducti…

Bible Study With Jairus - Romans 13 God’s Will for Believers and PoliticsRoman chapter 13 is about obedience to authority. Paul tells us that all authority is given by God, and that we must submit ourselves to those who govern us. If we resist authority, we resist God, because God has set up authority to punish evildoers on God's behalf. If we do g…
