Petr Horáček is a renowned author and illustrator for children’s books. He was born in Czechoslovakia and went to England in his twenties. Now he lives in Worcester with his family.
Petr has recently been nominated for Yoto Carnegie Medal for Illustration for his latest picture book The Perfect Present. In the past 22 years, Petr has published over 60 picture books and board books. His beautiful books are always filled with glowing colors, exuberant artwork, lovable characters, and winsome stories, which appeal to young readers and adults alike.
His first board books Strawberries Are Red and What Is Black and White? have won him the Books for Children Newcomer Award in 2001. These two books are still in print and popular among many countries.
In this episode, Petr has kindly shared with Storyland his inspiration and creative process of The Perfect Present, his very first ideas for picture books, insights on picture book creation and children’s artworks, and annual inspiration-seeking journey in Czech Republic etc.
