Manage episode 397788195 series 3465946
Welcome to Rock and Roll Flashback! I'm Bill Price, and this episode of the Rock and Roll Flashback Podcast will feature the career of singer/songwriter Otis Redding!
Otis Ray Redding Jr. was born on September 9, 1941 in Dawson, Georgia. When Otis
was two years old, his family moved to Macon, Georgia. At an early age, he sang in the
Vineville Baptist Church choir and learned to play the guitar and piano. By the age of ten, Otis took drum and singing lessons. At the Ballard-Hudson High School, he sang in the school band. When he was fifteen, he quit school in order to help support his family by working as a well digger, gasoline station attendant, and frequently as a musician. On Sundays he earned $6 by performing gospel songs for Macon radio station WIBB.
