In this episode featuring student success stories, I speak with Anita Schill about her bold decision to open an Energy Medicine business.

Find out how as a nurse in the 1970s she quickly became disillusioned with western medicine and sought other options, and how the study of yoga led to her transition to energy medicine.

If you’re considering making a pivot in your own business, you’ll love this episode!

“I think it’s important to remember the old adage ‘Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.’ Even if you’re happy where you are, there are other things in life.” —Anita Schill

This week on the Do It With Intention Podcast:

  • Learn how Anita’s early nursing career led her to the study of disease prevention and promoting health in the workplace.

  • And how a high level and rewarding job suddenly became unfulfilling as her interest in energy medicine intensified — and guidance arrived.

  • Discover what the energy body is and how it can have a positive, non-invasive effect on so many illnesses.

  • And why a bodyworker should be able to explain in a concise way what they do so potential clients understand it thoroughly.

Resources from this episode:

Initially a registered nurse, Dr. Anita Schill earned her doctorate degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health (now the Bloomberg School of Public Health). While her career has chiefly focused on the safety, health, and well-being of workers, her passion for yoga soon emerged. She is a registered yoga teacher at the 500-hour level (RYT 500) and certified as a yoga therapist by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYT). Dr. Schill’s personal commitment to energy medicine inspired her to pursue her passion for the health and well-being of individuals and establish her private practice, Bliss Zone Energy Medicine, LLC.

In this week’s podcast I speak with Bodywork Project student Lisa Fahay, a brand new bodyworker who tells us about her challenges and success stories. Learn how a skiing accident 30 years ago introduced Lisa to CranioSacral Therapy and how The Bodywork Project gave her the confidence to create a vision for her own practice for kids and teens. “I am speaking as Miss Independent. I can do all myself. There’s just not a reason to. The Bodywork Project is such a great road map and one thing I realized when I first looked at the syllabus — you don’t know what you don’t know. In that kind of a situation I think it would be really easy to make mistakes that might be hard to recover from.” —Lisa Fahay This week on the Do It With Intention Podcast: Find out how, as massage or bodywork practitioners, we must give ourselves the same space and grace that we offer our clients. Learn how creative, big hearted people — even those just starting out — can also build successful businesses with the proper guidance. And how The Bodywork Project specializes in breaking down giant tasks into smaller, digestible morsels to help you move forward instead of experiencing analysis paralysis. Resources from this episode: Lisa Fahay has long been drawn to Craniosacral Therapy (CST). After a life-changing experience, she enrolled in Massage Therapy school in order to pursue training in the CST modality. Rigorous learning at this stage of life has been humbling and gratifying and her Craniosacral Therapy practice will combine her vast history and love of working with children in many disciplines — from art therapy, children’s yoga, and beyond. She discovered a particular love of working with tweens and teens, offering an experience of safe touch and access to a calm nervous system. A perennial creator, Lisa’s mindfulness props and toys reduce stress and enhance a sense of peace. See Lisa’s website here . Contact Lisa here . See Lisa’s improv group’s website here . Clarity is so important as you create your ideal massage or bodywork practice. In my years of coaching massage therapists on the business side of their practices, I’ve seen a lack of clarity about what you want your practice to look like hold so many wonderful practitioners back. In today’s episode, I share two critical numbers for bodyworkers. Once you get clear on these numbers, you’ll be on your way to building the practice of your dreams. “You can avoid burnout and earn even more income by paying attention to these 2 simple numbers. I want you to get clear on these and you’ll be amazed at how much simpler and more straightforward and more clear your practice will become.” This Week on the Do It With Intention Podcast: Learn the difference between the numbers of clients you have and the numbers of sessions you have in a given timeframe (day, week, month, year). Find out how it’s much easier to work with your existing clients — making their lives a touch better with the great work you do — than it is to scramble for new ones. And how burnout can affect us both physically and mentally — and lead to us not doing our best work. On this week’s milestone podcast, we celebrate our 200th episode with former The Bodywork Project alumni and bodyworker extraordinaire, Julie Taylor. Tune in to hear Julie interview me about this exciting occasion, and learn what it’s like to spend half a decade producing a podcast for massage therapists and bodyworkers on the business side of their practices. (Spoiler: It’s terrific!) “What I’ve learned over the 5 years I’ve been doing this is that I’m starting to lean more into who I am. What does that mean? I am unapologetically Old School. I know that our industry, our work, is absolutely about connecting with people one on one, holding space for them, being present, being neutral, and I’m going to lean into that more. I’ve grown into comfort and confidence. This is who I am and this is what I’ve seen work over and over again.” — Mindy Totten This week on the Do It With Intention Podcast: Learn why I decided to start a podcast and maintain it on a consistent basis, and an astonishing statistic about how long the average podcast lasts. How women in particular have a hard time embracing what they’ve built and having pride in their accomplishments. Find out what “perfection paralysis” and “the first pancake” are and how to overcome them. Hint: You can’t control everything. Learn how (and why) to start a podcast, some challenges involved in producing one, and the fun parts too. Resources from this episode: Julie Taylor is a women’s health nurse practitioner (WHNP-BC), nurse herbalist, Science of Energy Flow® Foot Reflexology Practitioner, and Herbal Diplomat® whose practice, Integrative Solutions for Health, helps people take charge of their own health/healing and encourages everyone to actively engage in self-care. Julie bridges traditional healing practices with biomedical healthcare to provide a foundation for partnering with plants for health and healing. This week I talk with personal wardrobe stylist Elsa Isaac about how show up in our work so that we present ourselves as a reflection of who we are on the inside. “There comes a point when that misalignment becomes too much. It just feels like you’re not showing up as who you know you are on the inside. So we do all this work, all this self-development, to heal and elevate that inner version of ourselves. But for some reason we completely negate the outer appearance.” — Elsa Isaac This week on the Do It With Intention Podcast: Learn how fashion and the healing arts produce an energetic effect on our mental and emotional state. Find out how Elsa pursued her eventual profession by seeking help from an online expert. And how the experience taught her that she could do her job but in a wholly different way, ultimately inspiring women to live and work as their true selves.
