Universities and colleges around the world are saving money by cutting courses and freezing new hires especially in the arts. We'll hear from a professor who says that's a bad idea because arts and humanities are more important than ever.
Manage episode 455963598 series 2435012
A professor at Dalhousie University wants us to reconsider how we think about arts degrees. For decades now, young people heading to university have been enrolling in programs in STEM -- science, technology, engineering and math more often than in the arts and humanities. That's because they've been taught that, if they want a well-paying job, they need to look at STEM, and the trades. Jason Haslam says that's misguided.
He's an English professor at Dalhousie University, and he's very passionate about the value of the arts. He spoke with CBC's Leigh Anne Power.
