The Course Of Life

The Genesis Invitational did not disappoint, as Ludvig Aberg delivers on the 18th green for his second PGA TOUR victory. Plus, the love for Tiger Woods after the loss of his mother is felt throughout the tournament. On the PGA Champions Tour, 17 years removed from his last victory, Justin Leonard delivers an emotional victory and a return to form. The LPGA announces new pace of play rules, firmly spelling out punishment for slow play and reiterating how it will dole out that punishment, something Alex and Michael agree is a great step forward in stopping sluggish play in the professional game. The PGA TOUR heads to the Mexico Open at Vidanta where Michael wonders if Jake Knapp can find a winning form again to defend his title from the shortened tournament last year. The weather across the US continues to be crazy, from heat in the south, to snow in the north, and it finally hit home for Alex as he is riddled with sickness. In Tuned In, Michael pulled the trigger and is playing the newest installment of the Civilization franchise nonstop, while Alex caught the star-studded SNL50 specials. Alex caught up with the 2025 PGA of America Coach and Instructor of the Year while at the PGA Show last month, Jason Baile. Jason chats about the importance of stretching and his Golf Forever program. The 2024 PGA of America Coach of the Year, Jason Baile, also talked with Alex at the PGA Show, sharing personal stories with Korn Ferry winner Hank Lebioda, LPGA Hall of Famer Inbee Park, and Solheim Cup Captain Stacy Lewis. NBA All Star Weekend came and went, and it was a disappointment as Alex shares how horrible one of his favorite weekends has become. Major League Baseball is back (!) as Spring Training heats up and Alex has faith in his Red Sox after a busy offseason. As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, it's all about Valentine's Day as the guys recap their romantic meals, including bougie honeycomb and a thick steak. Support our friends! The Course Of Life

The party at TPC Scottsdale didn't disappoint at Belgium captures its first PGA TOUR victory thanks to Thomas Detry's big win at the WM Pheonix Open. The Founder's Cup produced a suspenseful Sunday until Jin Young Ko's bogey-less streak ended at 90 holes and American Yealimi Noh claimed her first LPGA victory. Big news happened this week in the PGA and PIF merger, as Donald Trump got to meet with the PGA, and Tiger played 18 with the President Sunday morning. The Genesis Invitational heads to Torrey Pines, and Tiger Woods is in the field. A course that has brought Tiger a lot of success over his career, Michael wonder's if Tiger would have teed it up if the tournament would have been held at Riviera. This weekend's headline is Valentine's Day, and there's still time to get something for the one you love. In Tuned In, Michael is getting ready to play the newest game in the long running Civilization franchise, but wants Alex's help in deciding which version to buy. Alex, meanwhile, got to see Lifehouse in concert, a 2000s band that doesn't do many shows anymore. This week's guest is Stacy Lewis. The 2 Time Major Champion and Solehim Cup Captain in 2023 and 2024 for Team USA shares what it was like to coach a winning team on US soil, he plans for the future, and she shares her thoughts on the game's future. Super Bowl 59 did not go as planed for the Kansas City Chiefs, as the Eagles fly high and cruise to victory. Alex and Michael break down their favorite prop bets from the game, and their thoughts on Kendrick Lamar's Halftime Show. In #AlwaysEndWithFood, the guys share their Super Bowl spreads, including muffuletta sandwiches from Alex, and a Dip Party for Michael. Support our friends! Rory McIlroy called it one of the "Cathedrals of Golf" and has now taken the top prize at Pebble Beach after winning this weekend's AT&T Pro-Am. Top names dominated the leaderboard including Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, and the return of Scottie Scheffler. Plus, Alex asks what Michael thinks of Jason Day's Malbon all-sweats outfit. The LPGA season kicked off in Orlando, FL with the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. Nelly Korda tried to start off her 2025 with a win, charging late, but South Korean A Lim Kim held on for her third victory on Tour. The Korn Ferry Tour also started off their season at The Panama Championship, and past guest Dylan Wu had a strong weekend finishing T2 as he works to get back to full PGA TOUR membership. This weekend's big event is the WM Phoenix Open. More of a party and a concert than a golf tournament, Alex asks Michael which headliner for the concerts each night he'd want to sit through (hint: Michael will bring a photograph to hold up during the concert). The TGL got their first taste of Tiger vs Rory last week, and their first OT "thriller." But maybe the more interesting finding is that the TGL is hiring seat fillers for the intimate venue. Alex's time at the PGA Show two weeks ago got him some cool videos of what was happening. A new VLOG will be hitting our YouTube channel this week, and Alex shares a surprise of what you'll find in the video. In Tuned In, Michael shares how anxious the last two weeks have been if you're of a certain political persuasion, and Alex shares updates on Beast Games and his favorite moments from the Grammys. This week's guest is Gianna Gravalese. Returning to the podcast, Gianna shares stories of this year's iHeartRadio Jungle Ball, her predictions for who will have a big 2025, and why everyone should go on a burger crawl with their fiends. Follow along with Gianna on Instagram at @giannagravalese and @HangryCures. The NFL's Pro Bowl Games very quietly took place over the weekend, and Michael and Alex wonders if anyone really cares. Super Bowl LIX heads to New Orleans for a matchup nobody wanted, but at least the prop bets keep things interesting, including a whole bunch themed around Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar's halftime show. The NBA is all aflutter after a massive trade this weekend which begs the question: is anybody safe? Trading cards are getting bigger and bigger, but an amazing deal of experiences and season tickets couldn't sway one kid from giving away a one-of-a-kind Paul Skenes card to the Pittsburgh Pirates. As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex gets in on the action at the Chilis 3-For-Me deal, and Michael is getting used to a new space as the bakery he works at grows and grows. Support our friends! Alex and special co-host Charlie Crenshaw share their impressions of the 2025 PGA Merchandise Show, the largest show in 15 years, in Orlando, FL. The new PGA of America President spoke at the PGA Show about new rollbacks to the golfball, and Charlie shares his thoughts on the controversial plans. Charlie shares his favorite breakfast spot, iHop, and what he ordered before the show started. Alex chats with Amber Bogle, a PGA HOPE Ambassador and veteran, who shares how she fell in love with the game of golf, and what it was like to putt in front of Arnold Palmer. Ranked as one of the best instructors for kids in America, Megan Johnston chats with Alex about the fundamentals and what makes Big Cedar Lodge and Payne's Valley so amazing. Support our friends! The American Express was a return to the winner's circle for Georgia alum Sepp Straka, slowly turning into one of the world's best. But PGA Rookie William Mouw stole the show with his horrifically bad 13 during his second round. The schedule for the next few weeks is set on the PGA TOUR until the Genesis Invitational. Normally at Riviera, now moved due to the LA Wildfires, Alex and Michael wonder if we'll see the tournament in Scottsdale right after the WM Phoenix Open. The Dubai Desert Classic was a big win or LIV golfer Tyrrel Hatton, whose win in Dubai will give him much needed OWGR points to stay in the majors. Tiger Woods made his official TGL debut last week, but didn't get a good result as his Jupiter Links fell to a very good LA Golf Club anchored by Sahith Theegala. Alex is off to Orlando for the PGA Show this week, where he'll be chatting with world renowned instructors, Solheim Cup Captain Stacy Lewis, and more. Make sure to follow along on our IG and YouTube so you don't miss it. In Tuned In, Michael is battening down the hatches as an unusual winter storm makes its way to Savannah with freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Alex, meanwhile, is disappointed with the "ending" of Squid Game and wonders what the best game to take is in Mr Beast's Beast Games. This week's guest is Kelly Walker from Visit Frisco, The Communications Manager shares her thoughts on the amazing golf available in this Dallas suburb, how great the sport scene is, and more. The NFL Playoffs gave us some dissapointing outcomes as fan favorites couldn't get over the hump into the Conference Championships next weekend. As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex is enjoying a healthy date night with some sushi, while Michael is whipping up a Chocolate Honey pie. Support our friends! The Sentry kicked off the 2025 season in paradise and Hideki Matsuyama set a PGA scoring record with a unique swing that bothers Alex. 2024 wrapped up in style for Alex and Michael, as they share what happened during the holidays, including a hilarious tour of Savannah, and poorly-timed sickness for Alex. The TGL kicks off this week with an arena that includes incredible technology, a rotating green, and a screen as big as a movie theater. Rumors are swirling of a new format for the TOUR Championship, and it would mark a return of a bracket on the PGA Tour. Scottie Scheffler punctured his hand during Christmas, and Alex really wonders why the best player in the world is risking injury to his most important asset. In Tuned In, Michael watched the hilarious surrealist slapstick comedy Hundreds of Beavers and encourages everyone to watch it. Alex, meanwhile, can't get over the generosity of Mr Beast in the new show Beast Games. This week's guest is Jason Mengel, the Championship Director of the 2023 KitchenAide Senior PGA Champ, the 2025 KMPG Women's PGA Champ, and the 2027 PGA Champ, all being held at PGA Frisco. Jason shares what its like to run a major championship, and what everyone should expect as the world best keep coming to Frisco and the new PGA of America HQ. College Football's new bracket is creating plenty of drama, and all the upsets, as all of the top 4 seeds lost their games. But Alex's Baby Bets were able to secure a winning season as Bowl Season heads toward its conclusion. The NFL Season wrapped up its regular season, and Michael's Giants and Alex's Patriots shared similar fates. And yet, the Giants kept their coach and the Patriots parted ways with theirs, creating some confusion and frustration. As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex is trying to get a taste of home in a Lobster Roll, and Michael tried a Savannah staple in Vic's on the River that did not live up to the hype. The PGA and LPGA teamed up for their annual team event, the Grant Thorton Shootout, where a new pairing took the win wire-to-wire. Meanwhile, Michael wonders why the PGA's best don't show up while the LPGA's does. Plus excitement at what may be coming to the Olympics in LA in 2028. The DP World Tour had their annual episode of Planet Earth with a side of golf in South Africa for the Alfred Dunhill Championship, where local Shaun Norris had to wait it out after posting a score for the win. This weekend is the annual PNC Championship, where all eyes will be on Tiger Woods as he returns to play with son Charlie. But other parent-child teams are more likely to win this fun event. Alex is headed to Frisco, TX to see the Frisco Bowl and check in with friends from his last trip to the Dallas area. In Tuned In, Alex is sharing his take on the season finale of Yellowstone, while the Top 10 is now very full of Christmas songs. This week's guest is Blair Wortsmith, who the guys first met at the Desire Cup at TPC Sawgrass in 2023. Blair, the Director of Programs and Operations for the Danny Wuerffel Foundation, is also the Fan Experience Producer for SEC Nation on ESPN. Blair chats with Alex and shares what its like being on the road every weekend with the SEC Nation team, what it was like meeting Matthew McConaughey, and how her British boyfriend first reacted to American football. The Lady Vols of Tennessee broke the record for the most 3-pointers made in a game, beating out a record held by 2-teams in the men's side of the ball. In College Football, Bowl Season is now upon us, and this weekend's first slate of games in the CFB Playoffs makes Michael ask: does anyone really like Notre Dame? Plus, a new addition to the college landscape is making massive shifts in the game. In the NFL, Michael's Giants continue to suck in new sucky ways, Alex's Patriots continue to lose, and the Chiefs continue to win. The Hero World Challenge did not surprise, as Scottie Scheffler won for the 9th time globally in 2024, becoming just the second player to do it. So it Scottie really as good as Tiger Woods? Alex and Michael ponder the question. The LIV guys showed up at the the PIF Saudi International and Joaquin Neimann showed how he could be the best golfer currently in the rival circuit. The Grant Thorton Invitational heads to Naples, FL with co-ed teams from the PGA and LPGA, an event that should really have a more central spot on the golf game's calendar. Michael shares a news story about someone's golf clubs that caught fire thanks to a Delta luggage crew, and Alex wonders how that could happen. In Tuned In, Michael shares a review of this year's Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, while Alex is enjoying the new Pop Culture Jeopardy! This week's guests are WVU Football reporter Jorden from the Country Roads Webcast and John Maddox from TigersSportsReport.com. Both Jorden and John share insights from the past season, what's in store for the future, and their predictions for the Frisco Bowl. In Pop Politics, Michael is wondering what is fair game when heckling a player during a sporting event. Juan Soto is now the highest paid professional athlete, taking a monster deal with the Mets, and Michael isn't bitter about it at all. In College Football, Alex had a dismal week with his Baby Bets during Conference Championship weekend. And Michael is loving the first ever college football bracket. In the NFL, Michael's Giants continue to suck, but maybe not as bad as the neighboring Jets, but the Chiefs continue to find ways to win football games. As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex is looking forward to the return of the Snack Wrap at McDonalds, while Michael visits a new Irish Pub in Savannah with some very big roots in Ireland and a place Alex and Michael visited a last year. Rumors with LIV golf are flying as CEO Greg Norman appears to be on the way out, Tony Finau may be headed to the rival circuit, and the DP World Tour may be the official partner for LIV players. Bryson DeChambeau's YouTube videos continue to draw attention, as he tries to chip over his house and make a hole-in-one, and he has one last shot at breaking 50 on the course with Tom Brady. The Hero World Challenge takes center stage this weekend, albeit without Tiger playing and only hosting in this hit-and-giggle event to start December. In Tuned In, Michael is getting the holiday Harry Potter marathon starter, while Alex has a review of the new Netflix holiday movie Hot Frosty. This week's guest is Guy de Havillande, the CEO of Million Dollar Round. Guy shares with Alex all the details about a new amateur tournament that will give the winner a check for one million dollars. The NBA's in season tournament is featuring some very bright and colorful courts, prompting Alex to ask Michael what he prefers to see under the feet of the athletes. It was Fight Week across football this weekend, as big brawls broke out in the college and professional games. Plus, Alex has a big week in his Baby Bets, and the guys lament further disappointment of their favorite NFL teams. In #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex enjoys the wonders of Thanksgiving leftovers, while Michael cooked just the right amount of food for the holiday. Support our friends! The RSM Classic finished off the PGA Tour's Fall schedule, and it included a new winner on Tour and some movers that secured cards for 2025. The LPGA season wrapped up with the CME Group Tour Championship, and it was a nail-bitter of a Sunday between Angel Yin and Jean Thitikul for the largest prize money in LPGA history. Thanksgiving week is here and that means you can play golf without having to watch golf, you can eat what you want when you want, and you can watch whatever is on the television. Women's college basketball had two milestones this week: a new winningest coach in college basketball, and the end of the game's current longest winning streak. College Football had some surprises in store this weekend, and Alex's Baby Bets didn't fare too well. In the NFL, Michael's Giants had big changes over the last week, but the same horrible results. Alex's Patriots, meanwhile, cruised into meaninglessness. And the NFL Thanksgiving slate doesn't look that hot. As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex can't believe the prices for pizza and chicken tenders at a UNLV game, while Michael is flabbergasted as a DiGiorno Thanksgiving Pizza special. The PGA Fall is still producing emotional and important wins as Rafael Campos claimed his first career victory, just days after becoming a father, at the Butterfield Championship in Bermuda. The Race to Dubai came to a close as Rory McIlroy claimed his 3th consecutive DP World Tour season title, his 6th overall, as he ties Seve Ballesteros and looks to overtake Colin Montgomery's record 8 titles. The LPGA's ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge included a lot of big names, like the GOAT Annika herself, Caitlin Clark at the ProAm, and more. Alex got a chance to cover the event remotely and asked questions of Brittany Lincicome, rookie Rachel Kuehn, and World #1 and winner of the event, Nelly Korda. One of the big highlights of the weekend was the return to the ring for Mike Tyson as he faced off against Jake Paul. But the hype outpaced the fight as it was a disappointment in the ring, and on the Netflix stream. In Tuned In, Michael shares an update to his flooded car situation, and Alex uncovers a Quinnipiac connection to a new hit TV show, and highlights the fastest moving Christmas songs in the Top 100. In Pop Politics, Alex wonders what's the best way to ask for and give gifts for Christmas, while Michael is shocked at a new 4-year long cruise to "escape the Trump Presidency." Inside the NBA has been a staple on TNT's coverage for decades, and it all looked like it was coming to an end as the NBA ended its partnership with TNT Sports. But it looks like it will rise again to keep Ernie, Chuck, Kenny and the guys together. Alex's Baby Bets rebounded in college football, continuing his winning season on small bets. In the NFL, the Chiefs have finally fallen, while Alex's Patriots lose again, and even on a bye week Michael's Giants find new ways to lose. As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex asks how much turkey is too much turkey? And Michael shares what its like to make 400 loaves of challah. Support our friends! The FedEx St Jude kicked off the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and Hideki Matsuyama held on to win on a tumultuous Saturday, but Michael and Alex wonder if all the hype has gone out of the PGA Tour's season ending tournament run. The LPGA got a two-time winner at the Scottish Open in Lauren Coughlin, and now the women head to St Andrews and The Old Course for the AIG Women's Open. John Daly and Bryson DeChameabue are together in Bryson's "Breaking 50" series on YouTube, and the highlight might be the chocolate milk delivered mid round (and mid beer). LIV Golf's Greenbrier event ended in a playoff as Brooks Koepka defeated Jon Rahm, but it was Rahm's supposed interested in leaving LIV that stole headlines this weekend. The CoL YouTube channel is active again as Alex's adventure in Beloit start hitting out channel, including 9-holes with just a driver at Red Barn GC. Lydia Ko, at the age of just 27, has every color Olympic medal in golf after claiming the Gold in Paris, and is now in the Women's Hall of Fame. The Wyndham Championship had a wet start and a wild Sunday finish (that included 3 rounds of golf!) that resulted in Aaron Rai taking his first career victory. Matt Kuchar, known for being cheap after not paying his caddy in Mexico several years ago, is back on our sh** list after his selfish move to not finish half a golf hole Sunday evening and make people return to the course Monday morning at the Wyndham. The FedEx Cup Playoffs kick off this weekend at the FedEx St Jude, and while Alex says Scottie Scheffler will take the season ending playoff, Michael says you should find a dollar to put down on Rory McIlroy. The rest of the Olympics, outside of golf, didn't disappoint either, and Alex and Michael look at men's and women's basketball's supremacy, and how US Women's Soccer keeps winning gold, but nobody seemed to care stateside. The 3M Open had some crazy moments, including an incredible bounce back and a ball in the arms of a cop, but Johnny Vegas gets back into the winner's circle. The surprising drop this week was from Bryson DeChambeau and Donald Trump, who played 18 holes together and made a full video about it. Most distressing was Trump's horrific putting stroke. The Paris Olympics are here, and while Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffle are the ones we want to see battling it out, Alex and Michael also want to know why there still isn't a team golf event. Alex is still enjoying his sabbatical in Beloit, WI, and even got to hop on the Beloit Sky Carp radio broadcast. It's a new year, a new PGA Tour season, and a new guest who's trying to play every golf course in Massachusetts. Our first episode is the year is here, hosted as always by Alex Lauzon and Michael Russell. The new PGA Tour season begins with The Sentry, where only one of the top 3 players in the world is contending (1:56). The OWGR released changes to how points will be dolled out, including for the new "signature events" on the PGA Tour, which include no cuts (sound familiar?) (5:45). 2023 was a huge year for the podcast, and 2024 looks to keep growing on that success. What's in store for us? More travel, and more golf, of course (8:15). Alex used the holiday weekend to catch the new movie Anyone But You , and Michael asks how it compares to 2023's No Hard Feelings (14:02). Our first guest of the New Year is Sean Melia, editor of the New England Golf Journal. Sean has a mission to play every golf course in Massachusetts, and shares some of his favorites, and reminisces with Alex about their shared hometown course, Concord Country Club (16:13). The New Year included a lot of fireworks, and Michael really doesn't understand why it's so excessive (47:22). The NFL season is nearing its conclusion, and that means Alex and Michael horrible no good very bad season can end (49:17). In #AlwaysEndWithFood, it's all about the January diets, and how maybe that can springboard to some wholistic life changes, you know, like it does every year (52:32). Support our friends! It's the end of 2023, and that means time for the annual Course of Life Festivus Special! First, a history lesson for those uninitiated in Festivus, a classic from Seinfeld (00:20). Festivus begins with the Airing of Grievances, including a look back at what we were upset with last year, and how pissed we are at the LIV/PGA Tour debacle this year, a horrible 8 month fiasco with insurance, and the problem with everyone on the roads not using their blinkers (1:57). The Great Feats of Strength highlight what was great about the year, including Tiger's return (again), and a certain PGA commissioner still having a job (20:38). The Festivus Miracles is what we think will happen in the sports world in 2024, including a bold and outlandish idea from Michael about the PGA/LIV partnership (31:34). While not Festivus tradition, it is a tradition to #AlwaysEndWIthFood, and that's exactly what we do here, highlighting our favorite food memories of 2023, including amazing steak in Ireland (35:28).
