Alongside is (literally lucky) counterpart -- Lucky, Real provides funny and insightful commentary regarding popular culture and its many obscurities. And I speak with him to do the same. WillGil is one-half of the Hip Hop Review Podcast, where he and his co-host VonteThePro discuss new and throwback mainstream albums in the Hip Hop world. It is a light, engaging, and honest podcast. Both WillGil and VonteThePro provide thoughtful and concise reviews of albums and mixtapes—all while expressing preconceived notions that Will and Vonte (and all of us) have when listening to a new album. WillGil took some time to chat with us about his upbringing on the West Coast and the inception of the Hip Hop Review Podcast. We also get into some of WillGil’s ups and downs in his podcasting career to-date, which ranges from the difficulty of preparing and reviewing not-so-good albums and mixtapes, reviewing brand new projects in the midst of the “streaming wars,” to receiving a mention from Peter Rosenberg. ====================================================== Keep up with the Hip Hop Review Podcast here: https://soundcloud.com/hip-hop-review-podcast Follow WillGill @Iam_willgil VonteThePro has some dope music (like me and Artic). 60 East is an Indie Hip-Hop artist from Ontario, California with an inspirational story. This Inland Empire emcee has gone through dark periods like many artists. However, 60 had what it takes to make it through the “grey area” and achieve his dreams of making an impact on the stage as well as business panels. I talk to 60 East about his upbringing in Ontario, big influences on his life and most of his discography. I also discuss his approach to the music business and his artistry – which is greatly influenced by Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000 hour thesis. 60 East’s album 10,000 Hours: a Story of Success is available wherever you stream music. Jabee is a rapper from Oklahoma City with a story to tell. Armed with memories of his own experiences filtered through the lens of books by the likes of Huey Newton, Assata Shakur, and Kurt Vonnegut, Jabee's album, "Black Future," is full of socially conscious and introspective songs that bang, a rarity in present day Hip-Hop. He acknowledges the past and the present, but as the album's title suggests, Jabee looks towards the future and inspires the listener to get active and create the desired outcome for oneself and one's community. If our cosign isn't enough, look up what Sway and Public Enemy's Chuck D have to say about the up and coming emcee. We caught up with Jabee before a show, and talked to him about his upbringing in Oklahoma City, poverty, Okalhoma City's music scene, being racially profiled and arrested for nothing, the independent music grind, appearing on Sway in the Morning, getting cosigned by Chuck D, and so much more. We has a great time talking with Jabee and this episode is a must listen. Check out Jabee's "Black Future" album wherever you listen to music and keep up with him at http://jabeemusic.com.
