Hilde Mosse comes from one of the wealthiest families in Berlin and stands to inherit an enormous fortune. But she longs for something more meaningful than the luxurious lifestyle her family provides. So Hilde decides to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. As the Nazis take power in Germany and the Mosse family is forced to flee, Dr. Hilde Mosse lands in New York having nearly lost everything.. She finds her calling treating the mental health of Black youth – and the symptoms of a racist system. In addition to photographs, school records, and correspondence spanning Hilde Mosse’s entire lifetime, the Mosse Family Collection in the LBI Archives includes the diaries she kept between 1928 and 1934, from the ages of 16-22. Hilde’s papers are just part of the extensive holdings related to the Mosse Family at LBI. Learn more at lbi.org/hilde . Zombie Fishbowl: A podcast about random s**t! Danielle from the UK and Melanie from the USA have conversations about randomly selected topics after a week of research in an attempt to blow each others minds (but mostly just have a nice chat about weird s**t).
Hello! We're back with a fresh episode all about Paranormal TV. If you're into ghost hunting TV shows then you don't wanna miss this one. It's a long one but a good one! We didn't want to cut out all the good stuff so its stuffed full of fun. Listen with a notebook so you can write down all the TV (and films, 'cause we can't help ourselves) we mention. You can also get in touch and we'll send you a list!!! yes, Danielle wrote a list! SHOCK! Anyway, we love you little undead fishes and we hope you're having an a-OK 23rd Lockdown…
Hello little undead fishes! This episode is all about Non-Western magical beliefs, also known as ' Cave-art and a little (magical) town in India '. Danielle goes back to her roots and get all archaeological on you and Melanie brings us a most interesting tale of the Black Magic Centre of India*! Join us and maybe you'll learn something, maybe you'll just laugh at us, but something we definitely have occurred. We love you STILL!…
WE'RE BACK! Happy 2021 Little Undead Fishes!!! Have you missed us? GOOD! So we're back to launch Zombie Fishbowl with our first episode of the year, some parts recorded Pre-Coup and some Post-Coup and sliced together like some beautiful homunculi! This episode pretty self-explanatory! Enjoy yourself a couple 'classic' (in different ways) serial killers that we select for your delight (you freaks). PLEASE let us know you listened over our various medias! We wanna hear from you…
After such a long wait you must be wondering what's going on, well, this episode will not make it any clearer ;) Melanie and Danielle just have a chat and bring the end to the year with some right ol' banter. Listen up for a little fun! We wish you all well and hope you all have a happy yuletide/solstice/any-holiday-time. We loves ya!…
Greeting little fishes! We have for you our Halloween episode for 2020 about POSSESSION. In this thrilling episode Danielle details the circumstances by which you might get yourself a Diagnosis of The Devil and Melanie details two really interesting, and totally different, real-life cases of 'possession'. So sit comfortably, grab your glass of wine/body of Christ and listen to Zombie Fishbowl! Some (minor) housekeeping; There is some background noise... little demons were running amok (safely) throughout the recording and every so often you here one growl or sing sweetly. I'm sure you can dig it. Also, Danielle's THING is totally cut from the episode, that is clear when you listen. And Finally, there is a teeny tiny kinda-spoiler for a (short) film called Host (available on Shudder!) but it's not like a spoiler-spoiler it's just a bit of plot.... BTW you should totally watch Host... it's awesome (they're not paying us to say that we just think it's awesome). Anyway, Enjoy!! WE LOVE YOU!…
Hello! A fun one for ya this week with Yokai. If you don't know what a Yokai is, first of all where have you been? and secondly, well have we got the podcast episode for YOU! Enjoy a little Yokai history and origins and then settle in for story time with Melanie. Danielle listens and learns right alongside you this episode and then plays a little Yokai game at the end. Love ya!…
Hello little undead fishies! We're back with an episode all about that really obscure event in world history known as Y2K and the computer error that threatened to ruin everyone's new years parties! WARNING: Shit gets political. As much as we might try (unsuccessfully) to steer clear of topical, controversial, divisive topics we can't help ourselves in this episode. So if you don't dig that sort of thing, maybe skip this one and come back next week when the topic is in no way political, moral, or controversial. That said, we know that if you're already an avid listener, none of what is revealed is gonna come as a surprise, but a heads-up never goes amiss. Love ya!…
We're back with an all new episode dedicated to 'Reincarnation'. We bring in the history of the idea, folklore, religious dogma, and science! From the Aboriginal Dream Time to the Matrix, we cover the bases and hopefully teach you some stuff. Enjoy! (and sorry about the shouty-weirdness of Danielle, she blames the seagulls) Oh yeah, trigger warning: If you don't like tooth-talk, you might wanna skip over Danielle's Thing.…
Greetings little undead fishes, here is Part 2 of our Lovecraft splurge with a very tired and somewhat delusional Danielle rattling off a list of Lovecraft-inspired pop-culture STUFF and Melanie desperately trying to keep up! It's a bit of fun for ya. Enjoy and WE LOVE YOU!
We split this episode up into two parts like Cthulhu splits his (im)mortal enemies in half to bring you TWO delicious new 'casts. In Part 1 we talk about the man himself, HP, and no, we don't shy away from the elephant (or Old One) in the room... his massive racism. OK SO enjoy it, little fishes, because to understand Lovecraft is to understand the weirdness which is, Zombie Fishbowl! LOVE YOU!…
Howdy! This week we shake up the formula a bit and Melanie tells us all about the weird and wacky world of Denver Airport- it's got all the big players in conspiracy theory world, questionable art, unfortunate design plans and lots, lots more. It's a doozy!
IT'S OUR 1st BIRTHDAY/ANNIVERSARY/LAUNCH DAY!!!! WOO! Thank you to all our loyal little fishes WE LOVE YOU. Ehem, anyway, this episode is all about the Table-Top Role Playing Game Dungeons and Dragons ! We try to give you a nice overview of the world of D&D for the layman and also pop some jokes in there for seasoned pros. Also, sorry in advanced for when Danielle describes her groups gameplay... you might cringe if you know anything about the game... LOVE YA!…
Howdy! In this episode we introduce our take on 'folklore'. Danielle gets all sentimental ('daaw) then quickly gets all professional again with a local legend and Mel rips some yarns with fancy accents and sing-songs. Do not miss it!! Thanks to listener @Jim-AuthorArcherHay for the idea for this episode!…
HI! Miss us? We're back with Episode 35 where we delve into the meaty topic of ransom notes through the gateway drug of kidnappings. Danielle talks handwriting analysis and Melanie shares the first documented case of the use of a ransom-note in a kidnapping in the USA and another (really tragic) case from LA in the 30's. Trigger warning: In the second half we talk about the kidnappings of children along with the details of the cases so that might be unsettling to some listeners. You are probably OK with Danielle's bit about graphanalysis but maybe not the cases. Up to you! OH AND Black Lives Matter…
We know you were expecting some dead dudes curses but all will become clear when you listen to the episode. We changed it up and brought you some spooky content instead. So listen up little fishes, while we give you the history and ghosts of two famous haunted castles! WE LOVE YOU
