What makes some people supercommunicators? How can you become one too? This is the central lesson in Charles Duhigg’s bestseller Supercommunicators: How to Unlock the Secret of Communication. Charles and Chris dissect what makes messy conversations so great, how to ask deep questions, and whether women and men communicate differently. They also discuss the different rules for different technologies — from telephones to Facebook to Signal — and how cautious politeness may be the best method to communicate effectively online. Oh wow Carol goes on another ride along- WHY THO? We don’t know, but Shep displays some problematic behaviour! Doug is being Doug, Mark and Weaver are talking more about who should be chief resident, Carter is itching to get into more surgeries but finds out he needs more paediatric hours to graduate and Benton finds out that Dr.V addressed the concerns of the study in an addendum but whether he added it before or after Bentons formal complaint is questionable. We start the episode by hearing Julie’s account of spotting Harry Styles, then on to our mutual obsession of Alternate Side Parking Thursdays and then we jump into an episode that we feel truly reflects the atmosphere of a wild night shift. We talk ethylene glycol (anti freeze) overdose, night time grilled cheese from the cafeteria, patients calling 911 from the waiting room and more. We start this episode with another segment of “Melissa’s new obsession”, we answer a cool Twitter question about things we would change in nursing if we had unlimited resources, Mark has a new breakup makeover, Carter leaves the hospital while on shift to celebrate being matched but gets drunk and risks getting kicked out of the program, Chloe is BACK and now wants to parent Susie, Carol turns up in a nursing dress, Benton pulls a controversial move with Marks patient, Susan is slapped by a patient, the Nurses job vs and PA job saga continues and there’s no acknowledgement of how traumatic the last episode was??? Melissa and Julie chat a bit about what it means to us when a patient t reports 10/10 pain but is busy on their phone. Susan and Mark spark rumours after being spotted on the train together, Peter is let go from the study with Dr. V and Peter makes a big decision about whether or not to report Dr. V, Carter acts like a complete jerk (what the heck Carter?) and we see Jeanie get some fantastic professional redemption and it’s Dougs birthday, which he has a hard time acknowledging. He gets a special birthday surprised from his Dad- doesn’t go so well. Let’s chat about it! This week we see Mark continuing with the O’Brien case and learns that the hospital wants to settle while he does not, and at the same time struggles with insecurities in his practice when a patient dies in his care. Also Jen is suing him for divorce and also wanting full custody of Rachel. Lots happening for Mark. Peter enters into a study with Dr. V, which will be a great opportunity for him, Carter takes credit for a diagnosis Harper made and Susan snaps at Kerry for breathing down her neck all day in the department. Back off Kerry! Twitter: @erdebriefed Instagram: @erdebriefedpodcast Email: erdebriefed@gmail.com --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/erdebriefedpodcast/message…
This week we get to hear a triggers segment from one of our listeners and friends who has a Masters of arts in counselling psychology (MACP)! Melissa shares one of her recent obsessions and a Julie asks a twitterverse question. We follow Carter on his path with the Rubadoux family, Mark has a hard time telling Rachel that he and Jen are getting a divorce, meanwhile, Rachel does NOT approve of her dad and Susan hanging out together. Benton gets voluntold to attend a banquet event at Dr. v’s house but invites Jeanie to come with him, which is much more fun! We see heart emojis everywhere! Happy listening everyone!! Another great episode in the books! This episode centres around the conversation of race and what it means in our world today. Christmas in the ER round two! Melissa’s obsession with romance novels continues, Shep and Carol wake up in her house which is NOT up to code, it’s Christmas at County general and the warm fuzzy vibes are lacking a bit when the O’Brien case continues and Mark runs into Mr. O’Brien before the deposition while also struggling with his divorce. We obsess over Noah Wylie’s physical comedy, Carter and Benton are up to their usual antics, and we meet a woman whose granddaughter was accidentally kidnapped when her car was stolen. This woman also happens to be Jewish and shares a lovely moment with Mark who we learn has Jewish heritage. Carol takes care of a patient who bears a striking resemblance to Santa and Shep tells Carol he loves her after like, a week of dating. Of course we’re up to our usual banter and tangents!
