In this episode, Margaret Odeng, the Mobile Money Integration Specialist, shares lots with Host Ziki.

Margaret, the Kenyatta University graduate is passionate about the Fintech industry and elevating voices of women in tech. She goes by the mantra, “Get comfortable with being uncomfortable”, which has shaped her outlook on life. She was once given a 2-day notice to travel out of the country to take care of business, which she successfully executed.

Once when she was a Google Developer Group lead in Nairobi where she organised a lot of tech conferences, she encountered issues that affected women’s participation in tech conferences. She has since made it her mission to encourage women to dive into the industry and take up space by sharing her story and knowledge of navigating this otherwise male dominated field.

Her drive has resulted in her winning international awards like Facebook GraceHopper Scholar and the IBM Master the Main Frame Champion.

About the Podcast Series

In the Beginning, somewhere in 2016, there was Ziki with an idea for a media programme to showcase Africa’s Art and Design journey. It took a long time for Development Through Media (DTM) to buy into the idea. Later 2017, the ideas to include IT aspects into the Podcast came about, inspired by the fact that the Host Ziki herself had a degree in Computer Science from Nairobi University.

The African Women in Technology and Design (AWiTaD) Podcast in essence aims to feature women of African descent who have built, or are well on their way to building successful businesses in IT and Design. The Podcast provides a platform for these women to share their stories and the journeys they have taken to get them where they are today. It also explores their thoughts as they share their plans on future endeavours as business owners and/or influencers in the field of Tech and Design.
