Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 02 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Tuesday morning 02 April 2024.
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent.
In rugby: Rookie Fijian Drua flyhalf, Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula is making waves after another outstanding kicking game in atrocious conditions in Lautoka last Saturday.
Apart from his pin point kicking in general play, the rising young star slotted 16 points off the kicking tee to now sit just behind the All Blacks and Chiefs star, Damian McKenzie for points scored in this Super Rugby Pacific season 2024.
In football: Man City failed to break down a determined Arsenal defence as a highly-anticipated clash at the top of the Premier League failed to live up to the hype in a 0-0 draw at the Etihad yesterday.
So Liverpool go top, two points ahead of Arsenal and three clear of City with nine games to play.
A share of the spoils preserves City’s unbeaten home run stretching back to November 2022 and ends Arsenal’s eight-match winning run in the Premier League.
But it is the Gunners who will be happier with a point as they prevented Pep Guardiola’s men from scoring at the Etihad for the first time in two years and 58 home games in all competitions.
In boxing: Australia’s Tim Tszyu has been told he will need to fight at least once before securing a world title rematch with Sebastian Fundora – who is now being steered towards Errol Spence Jnr.
In a chaotic aftermath to Sunday’s bloody world title loss, Fundora’s Manager said his fighter will not be heading Down Under for any rematch, and that Tszyu must also now earn his way back into the challenger’s spot with at least one win.
All of which prompted an angry response from No Limit CEO George Rose, who stressed Team Fundora know a rematch clause is in place, has a timeline and can be acted on as soon as Tszyu wants it.
“So good luck trying to get out of it,” Rose said.
In rugby league: Benji Marshall doesn’t care for comparisons to Wests Tigers teams of the past, declaring his club is on the “now train” following a stunning upset win over the Eels.
The Tigers showed grit and determination in defence that hasn’t been seen in years, which set up the thrilling 17-16 win last night.
Marshall was asked if the Tigers would have won the same game last season and the rookie coach didn’t mince his words in response.
“We don’t care about what happened last year or the year before, we’re on the now train and moving forward we need to be better than what we were today for where we want to go, so there’s still a lot of improvement in us.”
And that’s a wrap!
