In rugby union: Team Fijiana have made a statement to start their Super Rugby Women's campaign, powering past Queensland for a 21-32 win at Ballymore yesterday.
Champions for the past two years, Fijiana took every punch the Reds could throw in the grand final rematch, but proved too good with debutant winger Merewairita Neivosa the star of the show.
Neivosa created one try and scored two herself, including the winner two minutes from time as she again flexed her immense physicality and speed to find the line.
In football: Manchester City booked their place in the FA Cup semi-finals for the sixth successive year after securing a comfortable 2-0 win over Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium.
Coventry City also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup after scoring twice in stoppage time to claim a stunning 3-2 comeback win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
In SportsBiz: The upcoming 20 April fight between Ryan Garcia and unbeaten WBC Super Lightweight World Champion Devin Haney should be one of boxing’s biggest drawcards in 2024.
The 25-year-olds faced off six times as amateurs – the latest when they were 16 – splitting three wins apiece.
At 31-0, Haney is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world, while Garcia’s loss to Gervonta Davis in April 2023 was hugely popular, with a sellout Vegas crowd delivering US$22.8Million in ticket sales - the fifth highest in Vegas history, and over 1.2 million pay-per-view buys in the US alone.
In rugby league: The Storm stole a shock 30-26 win over the NZ Warriors after a Xavier Coates four-pointer that was dubbed “the best try we’ve ever seen” by FOX Sports commentary team.
With time running down on the clock Ryan Papenhuyzen burst through the line from an Eliesa Katoa short ball, giving Melbourne two minutes to score an unthinkable try.
Coates stole the show with a stunning effort to score one of the greatest tries ever seen in the corner, with AAMI Park erupting in celebration.
On the sidelines: Wayne Bennett has revealed the Dolphins could easily afford to sign Tevita Pangai Junior immediately because they are currently “a couple of million dollars” under the salary cap.
The Dolphins are already short on gun forwards after Tom Gilbert’s season ended before it started with an ACL injury, while Connelly Lemuelu (knee) is also facing a lengthy sideline stint.
“I know Tevita very well and I know what he can do. Mate he can play,” Bennet said.
In Boxing: Mike Tyson has shown off his impressive power in a workout video he has labelled as “Day one of training” for his fight against Youtuber and fake boxer Jake Paul.
The heavyweight legend, who retired with a record of 50-6, will step into the ring once again to take on Paul.
However, rumours are spreading across social media that Tyson is faking training in these videos.
