The Fijian Drua shot out of the blocks for a handy halftime lead before the Tahs came charging back in the rain to level it 36 all before their drop kick attempt in sudden death extra time missed.
Then it was the Drua’s turn and incredibly off a terrible pass from his halfback, which forced kemu Valetini to turn back and pull in the ball from above his head, the super sub flyhalf sold an audacious dummy, took one step and stabbed over an incredible drop kick, to win it for the Fijian Drua 39-36 NSW Waratahs and bring the house down.
In other Super Rugby Pacific games yesterday: The Chiefs hung on to edge the Highlanders 21-28 in Hamilton, the Blues bruised the Crusaders 6-26 at Eden Park and the Force flunked the Reds 31-40 in a major upset in Perth.
On Friday night, the Hurricanes hit 50 in ripping the Rebels apart in Palmerston New Zealand and the Brumbies hammered Moana Pasifika scoring 60 in Canberra.
Sign of the times in Fiji rugby? The 48th Marist 7s, featuring the All Blacks 7s, and the Skipper Cup plus the ANZ Marama Challenge all drowned out by the crazy Drua fans in Lautoka.
In football: Politicians and fans in England are outraged with Nike’s new football kit for the Three Lions, where the cross of St. George, always in white and red, has been changed to a red, purple, blue and black cross for the Euro 2024 tournament taking place in June.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak joined in on the fury against Nike: “When it comes to our national flags, we shouldn’t mess with them because they’re a source of pride, identity, who we are and they’re perfect as they are,” he said.
Meanwhile, the German Football Federation is dropping ADIDAS for Nike for their kit from 2027!
In the NRL Multicultural Round: Written off after their poor showing in Canberra last week, Benji Marshall’s Tigers responded in the best way possible to hand the rookie coach his first official win in the NRL as the Wests Tigers stunned the previously unbeaten Sharks 6-32.
The Sydney Roosters celebrated Jared Waerea-Hargreaves 300th game in the best possible way, smashing the Rabbitohs, 6-48 in front of a packed out Allianz Stadium.
The victory was the Roosters’ second-biggest win ever over South Sydney in a rivalry that spans 116 years.
Finally, only in America: Nobody is really working in the US this month! Not with eight basketball games a day, featuring some of the biggest and best basketball colleges in March Madness!
