Listen in to Chris in conversation with Freda Payne, an American singer and actress, known throughout the world for her most notable record, 1970 hit single, “Band of Gold“. She was also an actress in musicals and film, as well as the host of a TV talk show. Freda is the older sister of Scherrie Payne, a former singer with the American vocal group The Supremes. She was also married to American singer, composer and songwriter Gregory Abbott.
In part two (broadcast on Wednesday 6th April) she will be talking about her current music and recently released single Just To Be With You, described as a smooth jazz song about long distance relationships. Freda has duetted with some of the world's best known singers including Johnny Mathis and Sir Cliff Richard. Her latest jazz album features duets with Johnny Mathis, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling and Kenny Lattimore.
