welcome to The Coach Steve Clark PhD Show where the aim is to encourage, inspire and equip coaches, players and parents who in turn inspire and equip others to promote tennis, foster sportsmanship, and develop greater players and people. So thanks for joining me and I hope you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the conversation. In this podcast I talk with Trevor Kronemann, edited from a 2015 conversation a had with him. Trevor is currently the SCTA (Southern California Tennis Association) Director of Junior Tennis but at the time of this conversation was the head coach at UC Irvine where he not only played and made his mark collegiately but took the reigns after I left, post his professional playing days. It was a pleasure to coach him for those years and develop as a collegiate coach and husband/father. Trevor (UC Irvine, 1990) was an 4x All-American (one of only a few players at the time to have done that), and among many other accolades was as high as 14 nationally in singles, #1 in doubles at one time, was honored with the National ITA Van Nostrand Award, which goes to a promising collegiate player entering the professional circuit and in 1999 was inducted into the UC Irvine Athletics Hall of Fame. Trevor was top on a doubles tandem on the ATP that was 3 in the world during his 1990-98 span, participated in all Grand Slam Tournaments, garnered six career ATP Tour Doubles titles and was a finalist in five other championships. As a player, he also served as Vice President of the ATP Tour Player Council. He was coach of Newport Beach Breakers of World Team Tennis and previously served as head coach of the Springfield Lasers for seven seasons which he led to the Western Conference title in 2001. He was named Team Tennis Rookie of the Year as a member of the Charlotte Heat in 1990 and was the league's MVP on two occasions. In 2005, Kronemann was named to the World Team Tennis All-Star 30, a group of the best men's and women's players in the 30-year history of the WTT. We talk about being a college student-athlete, the transition from college to the professional ranks, parenting and junior tennis, the role of doubles in player development and college tennis, and much more. Thanks for listening in. Be sure to see CoachSteveClarkPhD.Com for other podcasts, blogs, resources and discussions. The introduction music is “Let it Rip” by Mike and Bob Bryan band and the narrator is Wayne Bryan. Thanks for your continued support.
