2024 Sports Law in Review
Manage episode 459261506 series 3445519
On this episode of Conduct Detrimental: THE Sports Law Podcast, Dan Lust (@SportsLawLust) and Mike Kravchenko (Find him on YouTube) share a review of just a few of the biggest stories in sports law over the last 365 days.
The duo kicks off the episode by discussing the infamous Shohei Ohtani gambling incident where his interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, was accused of embezzling $16 million from the MLB star to settle gambling debts. The segment continues by highlighting just how common sports betting scandals are becoming...Jontay Porter, Temple basketball...etc.
Dan and Mike both share more of their thoughts on the Dartmouth men’s basketball team attempting to form the first college athlete union, arguing they were employees under labor law due to their revenue-generating roles. Although the effort was withdrawn, it fueled national debates about athlete rights and the future of collegiate sports.
Which we cover mightily on the $2.8 billion House v. NCAA settlement that allowed schools to share athletic revenue with players.
Lastly, the Conduct Detrimental team did incredible things this year including book releases, 10 under 10 awards, writing competitions, symposiums, and so much more...
Thank you all so much for another incredible year, and cheers to an even greater year ahead!
