Flag Planting Fracas, Lawmakers Fight House Settlement, Student-Athlete Prop Bets, & SEC/ACC Challenge
Manage episode 454116511 series 3445519
On this episode of Conduct Detrimental: THE Sports Law Podcast, the NIL hour is BACK as we are led and joined by Tarun Sharma (@tksharmalaw) and Mike Lawson (@Mikesonoflaw) for a quick trip around the college sports law world.
Is college football facing a flag-planting frenzy? A weekend of intense rivalry games, headlined by the Michigan-Ohio State showdown, set the stage for a chaotic day of heated exchanges, postgame brawls, and field-storming flag displays. Punches were thrown, helmets went flying, and tensions boiled over as fans, coaches, and players engaged in verbal sparring, physical altercations, and, of course, flag-staking dramatics.
State lawmakers are pushing back against restrictions on NIL compensation and the NCAA is facing significant challenges in regulating NIL deals. While things are looking to be moved away from NIL collectives, Mike explains what this means for schools and their individual states.
Tarun and Mike cap off the episode sharing their what to watch for....including but not limited to point-shaving, student-athlete prop betting, and the SEC vs. ACC basketball challenge.
