Hey, welcome to the very first episode of Crippled by Culture, where we talk about everything in life and relate it to the disabled and chronically ill community. My name is Sean Gold, and I am an author, advocate, and nonverbal public speaker for the disability community. Today I thank Yuri Velez for being my voice in this episode. In this episode, we are talking about the intersections of disability and School accessibility and accommodations. Guest Bio: Brittany Patrick (She/Her) is a doctoral candidate in the department of Special Education at the University of Maryland College Park. As a Project PROPELL sponsored scholar, she studies culturally-sustaining literacy interventions for students with mild to moderate disabilities. Brittany has served as a special education teacher in North Carolina, Washington D.C., and San Antonio, Texas. Presently, she works for the Office of State Superintendent of Education, where she develops special education policies for the city of Washington, D.C. Brittany has also served as an independent curriculum consultant for non-profit organizations, public, and private schools and recently founded the Umoja Collective LLC, a special education advocacy and professional training organization based in Maryland.
