In ESNA Media's first podcast, Tino Brömme, Chief Editor at ESNA, interviews Thomas Jørgensen, Head of the EUA Council for Doctoral Education. This podcast has been prepared in the lead up to the 8th annual EUA-CDE conference in Munich, entitled “The Future of Doctoral Education”. This is a series of podcasts featuring interviews with experts in the field of higher education and science policy across Europe. Jørgensen: It’s part of an overall trend that there is an increased political attention and public attention to doctoral education because it’s seen as an important element of innovation policy first of all. This is what we’ve seen in the last 10 to 15 years, is that you have this quite considerable growth in doctoral education. It’s become a much bigger field, and it’s much more important to national policies. If you want to have a ‘Knowledge Society’ you need to train researchers.
