根據環保署統計，台灣平均每人一年浪費的廚餘大概是96公斤，全台累計大概浪費220萬公噸的廚餘回收量，換算下來廚餘桶可以堆出5萬座台北101。
食物浪費，不僅僅是損失維持生命的營養，同時還失去生產食物所需要的土地、水和能源，聯合國研究也證實食物浪費也是加速地球暖化的重要關鍵。
「主婦聯盟環境保護基金會」在台灣長期倡議惜食觀念與飲食教育，從生產源頭到家庭，期待打造零浪費的食材系統。
