In this thrilling episode of Gunsmoke, Marshal Matt Dillon is drawn into a complex web of deception, murder, and robbery. When sodbuster Oney Becker is shot in the back after a heated argument with gambler Al Clovis, suspicion immediately falls on Clovis. But the situation takes a darker turn when Matt uncovers a cunning plot.
Clovis uses a flawless alibi with Dodge City's banker to distract Matt, allowing his criminal partners to pull off a daring $25,000 bank robbery while Matt is lured away. As the pieces fall into place, Matt must balance his duty to justice with his loyalty to Chester, whose good-hearted nature inadvertently enables Clovis’s schemes.
The episode culminates in a tense showdown where Chester’s life hangs in the balance, and Matt is forced to make a split-second decision. Despite Matt’s efforts, the robbers escape into the night, leaving behind a haunting reminder of the challenges of justice in the Wild West.
