Dating a Foreigner
Rice-lover or Potato-lover?

YES: exotic; acquire a different perspective on things; fulfill your fantasy for foreign people, esp. the physical part
NO: player; promiscuous; cultural difference(hate cold uncooked stuff, 西方女先know your body, then soul,东方女，first know who you are first), esp. language
Johnny: jokes fall flat on Chinese girls. man, it’s such a good joke!
Me: in class, crack jokes, no response. imitate Bush: I’m the decider! awkward
so, language is a serious issue in dating a foreigner!
casual relationships, one-night stand: nonverbal, body language, just do it!
long-term/ serious rel: deep comm.: express your life values, share stories that made who you are today, state your politics, etc.
Johnny is an intellig. guy but he can only speak basic Chinese, talk about shallow topics, girls unable to appreciate his smartness, sense of humor, instead, think he’s a stupid ABC who can’t even make himself understood cos grade-3 Chine.
BUT:
a lot of interracial relationships in which the girl speaks poor Eng. WHY
guys, esp Straight guys, fall for hot chicks
brain? no concern! she’ll earn face for you, 面子, she’ll be good mom, wife
if care spiritual level of satisfaction, look for soul mate: patience!

choose someone who speaks your language well, agrees with your culture, and thus being able to truly appreciate your greatness
YOU CAN TAKE THE INITIATIVE:
speak her language well
observation: 女方英语差, common language is Chinese, 女方英语好，then they refuse to speak Chinese, and the guy’s Chinese, however long he’s stayed in China, will no see substantial improvement, at least not due to his chinese girlfriend’s help
language is empowering
