Aloha and welcome to the Hawaii Vacation Connection blog! I’m Bruce Fisher, your host and Hawaii travel expert at Hawaii Aloha Travel. Unlike the endless stream of “travel influencers” you might see online, I’ve been booking dream vacations to Hawaii for years, and I’m here to help you plan your trip the right way. Today, we’re talking about my favorite topic: money-saving tips (or “hacks,” if you prefer) for your Hawaii vacation. Let’s dive in! 1. Lock in Your Airfare & Pay Over Time Did you know that early in the year is often when we see some of the most dramatic drops in airfare to Hawaii? If you’ve noticed lower prices recently, you’re not imagining things—this is the time airlines start rolling out deals. When you book with Hawaii Aloha Travel, we can lock in these low airfare rates now, and you can pay for your package in installments. This approach is a game-changer for families or anyone planning a big trip in advance. 2. Oahu: Your Best-Value Island When it comes to saving money, Oahu should be at the top of your list. Why? More hotel selection: With Waikiki’s wide range of hotels and resorts, you’re more likely to find competitive rates. Limited Airbnb options: Hawaii has tightened regulations on Airbnbs, and about 90% of them on Oahu are in Waikiki. Because inventory is limited, Airbnbs are not always cheaper anymore—hotels can actually be the same price or even less! If you still prefer a home-away-from-home feel, we can offer condo rentals (including our own Airbnb units) that often come with full kitchens and the flexibility to cook meals. 3. Don’t Obsess Over the Ocean View Ocean views are incredible, but ask yourself: “How much time am I really going to spend in my room?” In most Waikiki hotels, the difference in cost between a city-view room and an ocean-view room can be significant. A great way to save money is to opt for a lower-category room, especially if you’ll be out exploring most of the time. And remember, across-the-street hotels often have stunning views, plus you’ll save a bundle. 4. Consider All-Inclusive or Breakfast Bundles Food in Hawaii can be pricey, so some folks prefer all-inclusive packages or adding breakfast to their booking. This way, you know upfront what your meals will cost. We have options that include daily meals and can tailor a package to match your preferences. If an all-inclusive isn’t your style, even bundling breakfast can help you avoid daily sticker shock at local diners. 5. Get Creative with Food If your accommodation has a kitchen or kitchenette, take advantage of it! Groceries and prepared foods from local spots can stretch your budget: Shop at Costco or local grocery stores: Yes, Hawaii has Costco! A quick Uber ride (about $40 round-trip from Waikiki) can save you a lot if you stock up on essentials for the week. Check out farmers markets: You’ll find fresh fruits, vegetables, and local treats. It’s a fun way to experience local culture and snag great deals. ABC Stores & Bento Boxes: Throughout Waikiki, you’ll find ABC stores selling bentos, sushi, and snacks. These quick meals often cost under $10. It’s a solid alternative to pricier sit-down restaurants. Eat & Drink Wisely: Want to indulge in a few cocktails? Consider buying your own liquor and mixing drinks in your room. That way you’re not paying $15+ a pop at a bar.
