Dr. Lance Evans is the superintendent of the New Albany School District. Late in 2023, Dr. Evans was hired by the Mississippi Department of Education to become Superintendent of Schools for the state of Mississippi. In the state of Mississippi, must not only be hired by MDE but must also be approved by the legislature. If approved, Dr. Evans will assume command of the department on July 1. Melinda sat down with Dr. Evans to discuss his successes in New Albany and his plans for Mississippi's schools. Part 2 of this interview will be aired on March 19.

Wells-Barnett and James Meredith, America’s favorite playwright Tennessee Williams, and Nobel-Laureate William Faulkner. The stories of the Mississippi Hills are many and powerful, from music and literature, to Native American and African American heritage, to the Civil War. The Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area supports the local institutions that preserve and share North Mississippi’s rich history.
