Hillsboro School District Weekly Hot News January 13, 2025 - Strategic Plan Survey
Manage episode 460476293 series 3382288
A key component of our 2023-2027 Strategic Plan is the incorporation of constituent voice. We have worked hard to ensure opportunities to share thoughts and feedback are varied, meaningful, and involve intentional outreach to identified focal groups and historically underserved populations. This includes our annual student survey in the spring, meetings with our parent advisory committees, one-on-one or small group conversations with families and/or students, superintendent focus group chats with high school students, and more.
In both the planning year and Year 1 of the Strategic Plan, we also offered a survey to all families, community members, and staff. This survey was almost identical to the student survey and was approximately 25 questions long. Heading into this year, we took a closer look at that survey and brainstormed ways to make it more relevant and accessible to those completing it, in hopes that it would generate higher participation and more robust, actionable feedback for staff overseeing implementation.
What we came up with is a survey that is just 7 questions long! We truly hope all of our families, community members, and staff will take a few minutes to complete the survey and provide their honest feedback by Friday, February 14. Themes and common questions/concerns will be pulled from the responses and used to shape our Year 3 Strategic Plan improvement actions, as well as our Integrated Guidance Plan, which includes our Student Investment Account, High School Success, and Early Literacy Plans.
Our featured students are from Glencoe’s Leadership class. On Saturday, December 21, Glencoe High School’s lobby was once again transformed into a one-stop shop for students and families in the Glencoe feeder group who needed a little help for the holidays. This has become a favorite annual tradition of Glencoe leadership students and their advisor, Tom Stephens. Together, they staged new toys, games, and stuffed animals; as well as clothing, non-perishable food, and even Christmas trees for families to choose from. At designated times, families came into the shop, selected what they needed, and had the option of enjoying hot cocoa as students wrapped their presents. The following Monday, students delivered items to families who weren’t able to make it to the shop. In all, more than 134 families representing more than 400 children were served through this innovative and generous program. To the leadership students, Mr. Stephens, and everyone whose donations made the event possible, we say a heartfelt thank you! You make us Proud to be HSD!
There will be no school for all students on Monday, January 20, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. School resumes on Tuesday, January 21.
