A Consumers Energy solar and renewable natural gas site on farmland near Battle Creek is an example of others the utility intends to build on other sites.
That's the word from David Hicks, Consumers Energy vice-president of clean energy development, who says the goal is 20 such facilities in order to attain the company's renewable energy goals.
The utility expects the final project to generate enough power to provide electricity to 25,000 homes and reduce emissions equivalent to thousands of cars.
Hicks tells Community Matters about the Spring Creek Farms site, where ground was broken in a first of its kind AgriEnergy Center in Michigan. The site will create solar energy as well as convert menure to natural gas using a so-called biodigester. Click to hear more.
