The saga of whether the Carolina Panthers would franchise tag star edge rusher Brian Burns ended Tuesday morning as the team announced its intentions to do just that. The tag for Burns became inevitable once it was clear that he and the team could not reach a long-term deal before the franchise tag deadline. The Panthers are utilizing the non-exclusive tag, meaning that Burns can negotiate with other teams and leaving open the small possibility that the Panthers could garner two first-round picks in a trade.
