Kyle Schwarber smacked THREE homers and drove in 7 runs as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Dodgers 9-4 Wednesday night! For the Phils, it’s their first series win since they SWEPT the Dodgers in a three-game series from July 9th – 11th.

After Schwarber led off the game for the Phillies with his first homer of the game, Philadelphia’s defense came up very small and allowed 4 runs to the Dodgers through the bottom of the 2nd inning. Brandon Marsh just missed a fly ball to deep center were he appeared to mistime his jump that resulted in a double for Teoscar Hernandez. Then Austin Hays dropped liner he had in his mitt that allowed a run to score.

With the Phillies down 4-1 in the 5th inning, Kyle Schwarber stepped to the plate with two runners on and 1 out. He delivered a 2-run double to right to make it a 1-run ball game.

Then in the 6th after a fortunate defensive interference call went the Phillies’ way and led to a game tying JT Realmuto RBI ground out, Schwarber stepped back up with the bases loaded. Dodgers’ reliever Joe Kelly spiked a pitched allowing Brandon Marsh to score and give the Phillies a 5-4 lead. Instead of then walking Schwarber with 1st base open, LA’s decided to pitch to him. Schwarber smacked his 2nd homer of the game 426ft to right field to give the Phillies a 8-4 lead. He hit his 3rd homer in the 9th inning to center field.

Another big thing for the Phillies in this win was Johan Rojas replacing an injured Austin Hays in the Phillies line-up after Hays came up hurt in the 3rd inning. Rojas was a sight for sore eyes as he settle the Phillies defensive woes in the outfield.
