In many circles, the idea of self love sounds self-indulgent and selfish. But yesterday, as I was recovering from my holiday hangover, I took some time to take care of myself and get myself back in working order. I practiced “Self Love”, and it was nothing short of necessary and good for my soul. What did I do? I pressed pause on all the Monday morning chores I would have normally done. I opted out of my normal breakfast and even working out. I ate food I shouldn’t eat and I even took a nap. Why? Because it was all I was capable of doing. And I needed it. When you think of self love, do you immediately think of something that is contradictory to the Bible? Or do you understand that self love is amoral when it’s accurately understood. It’s nothing more than curling up with a cozy blanket and reading a book, or taking a nap when you’re tired or taking a day to pause and let go of all the responsibilities. It’s wearing a coat when it’s cold outside and turning the air down when it’s too hot. It’s taking medicine for a cold or sipping tea to soothe a sore throat. But instead of it feeling like it’s something we have to do, it’s something we actively choose to do in order to live out our lives in a way that is more present for our family. I believe self love is vital and necessary in the life of every woman (and man). But if we shew it off like it’s a bad word and don’t fully understand it, we miss out on its benefits. I’d love to hear from you! When you listen to this episode, I’d love to hear comments on our Facebook page under the post or you can email me at amy@momonthefringe.com.
