NO BS WITH SB #069 KALIL F. JOHNSTON 🎸 NO BS WITH SB is proud to present Kalil F. Johnston Music has always been a big part of my life, having attended F.A.C.E. (Fine Arts Core Education) school in downtown Montreal from kindergarten until my second year of high school i was exposed to and educated in “the arts” from quite a young age. after graduating high school i participated in numerous small musical projects in cegep, and in my 20’s joined a gospel choir (the Montreal Inter-cultural Choir) in 2002. After seven years with the choir and many amazing experiences including: recording an album, many small out of town and in town performances, working my way up to soloist and even helping organize events. All along working as a security agent “bouncer” in concert halls like metropolis, spectrum de Montreal, club soda, and bigger outdoor events like Osheaga and vans warped tour. In 2008 i decided to return to school and finish my cegep in music and applied and was accepted to Vanier cegep in the pop voice program, i even won a 100$ dollar scholarship cheque for highest audition grade for pop voice auditions(96%). after obtaining my d.e.c. and graduating from the programming in 2010 , in which i met many other musicians including Pierre-Yves Lettellier. i decided to continue in gospel with a bit higher stakes and joined the Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir (mjgc), also worked with a few artists on smaller project like single and EP recordings and productions and in 2012 founded a band of my own (with my sister, brother and Pierre-Yves ( Perfect Strangers). I perform annually at place des arts with the (mjgc) and with the choir have had many great opportunities such as: singing national anthem for alouettes home opener, out of town shows including quebec city, ottawa blues fest, hudson music fest… and in 2014 a sold out 5 nights at salle Wilfred Pelletier with the choir as the chorus in the famous George Gershwin opera “porgy and bess” and more recently I had the privilege of performing a solo with the choir accompanied by dr Trevor Payne at the closing of the Montreal Jazzfest in 2015 in the new symphony hall and performed the same solo at the new hospital opening accompanied by Oliver Jones. Since its inception Perfect Strangers has performed over 50 shows over a dozen recordings and played most small venues in Montreal , done festivals and event like “Festival Duluth en Arts” and jardins gamelins, produced many of our own shows with other bands and even had the chance to be featured on a tv show on TVA in late 2015 followed by the soft release of our first single 1-877 (get on down) from our 2017 project “Get Naked” released summer 2017. In 2018 we had the privilege of touring with the legendary 90’s Hip Hop duo “Dubmatique” as their live band for their 20 year comeback tour.
