A Tale of Two Builders: Friends of OneLife with Mbonisi Malaba

How storm-proof is your life? This week we had the privilege of having Mbonisi Malaba with us from OneTribe Church in Nairobi, Kenya. Mbonisi led us through Jesus’ famous parable of two builders who built their houses on the rock and on the sand. When a great storm came, with violent winds, rain and floods, the house built on the rock stood firm, but the house built on the sand was destroyed. Christianity doesn’t promise us a storm-free life. Jesus was clear that we will encounter many kinds of suffering in this life. But what Jesus offers is a storm-proof life. If we build our life on a foundation of what seems best to us, it will be like building on the sand. When the storms come (including the storm of judgment in the life to come), the house will collapse leaving us lost and destitute. But if we build on the foundation of Jesus plus nothing else, if we hear His words and obey them, it will be like building on the rock. When the storms of life come, we will stand firm because we have Jesus in the midst of the storm. Jesus is the power of the storm-proof life, and receiving Him fully is the only path to true, eternal, unshakable life.
